TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity girls basketball team made history last season as it notched its first postseason win in well over a decade. The Clippers defeated Benton Community, 53-40, on Feb. 15 at home in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal for the historic win. However, Cedar Rapids Xavier dashed the Creek Girls’ hopes of advancing farther with a 55-33 loss three days later in the regional semifinal. The loss ended the Clippers’ season at 13-10 overall, and 8-6 in the WaMaC Conference, good for fourth in the West Division.

Learning from last season

IOWA CITY– Mark Reiland, West High’s head varsity coach, doesn’t sugar coat his words. Ever.
Looking at the 2017-18 wrestling season, Reiland, in his 19th year at West High, said his team has, “Lots of returning kids with varsity experience, but not all of the experience was positive.”
In other words, for some of his Trojans, the 2016-17 season may well have been more of a learning situation.

A diamond in the rough no longer

CCA improves the baseball diamond in Tiffin

TIFFIN– Next spring, when the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers hit the diamond in Tiffin to start the 2018 baseball season, they may well sing John Fogerty’s 1985 hit Centerfield: “Well, a-beat the drum and hold the phone. The sun came out today. We’re born again, there’s new grass on the field. A-roundin’ third and headed for home, it’s a brown-eyed handsome man. Anyone can understand the way I feel…”
