DES MOINES– A sure sign of spring in Iowa is a weekend of rain for the Drake Relays.
Rain fell on all three days of major activity on The Blue Oval at Drake University for the 107th edition of America’s Athletic Classic. However, it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of 4,485 high school, college and elite class performers on and around the track, including 17 Olympic medalists, gearing up for the 2016 Rio Games in 10 weeks.

Hawkeye women’s wrap-up

Hawk Talk

Lisa Bluder has been the head coach of the Hawkeye women for 16 years.
The Hawks made the postseason (including last year in the WNIT) in 15 of those years.
Iowa finished the season 19-14, 8-10 in the Big Ten, and according to most basketball analysts, were one win away from getting into the NCAA tournament.
It would have been the ninth straight for the Hawkeyes, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
