Gerald D. Stull, 68, of Cedar Rapids, died Feb. 10, 2009, in his home following a sudden illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 14, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. Carroll Brown officiating. Visitation was Friday, Feb. 13, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private inurnment was at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Carey Lynn Van Etten, 51, of Mount Vernon, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009 in her home following a courageous battle with cancer. Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Bill Harnish. Visitation was Monday, Feb. 9, at the funeral home. Burial was in Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Ben; her mother, Marlene Lisenbee of North Liberty; her brother, Bob (Terese) Lisenbee of North Liberty; her in-laws, John (Marilyn) Van Etten of Cedar Rapids; and numerous other relatives.

NORTH LIBERTY– Residents of Golfview Mobile Home Park in North Liberty approached North Liberty’s city council last Tuesday with one very grave concern.
“There are rumors going around about Golfview association selling the land that we lease, and I’m kind of worried,” said Mollie Oakes of Golfview Drive. “The state of Iowa tells us if we get an eviction notice, we have 60 days to move our mobile homes.”
Oakes and a neighbor, Dean Wade, both told the council rumors are “flying” that the current owners of Golfview Mobile Home Park plan to sell or re-zone the land for commercial development.

OXFORD — “As times change, so do our attitudes,” said CCA athletic director Gene Dietrich as he addressed the regular monthly school board meeting Jan. 21. Dietrich was referring to a time roughly two years ago when the subject of sponsorship and/or selling advertising to help pay for athletics was first brought up.
“This is something that I’ve fought tooth and nail for about a year,” he said. “With budget crunches and everything else, you look at every possible way to raise money.”

NORTH LIBERTY — It’s become routine: dig out the driveway and shovel off the sidewalk. But what about the fire hydrant in your yard?
For firefighters, every second counts when responding to a fire. Traffic and slick or snow-covered roads make getting to the scene difficult enough. Add trying to find a fire hydrant to provide a water supply to the pumper, and you include a potentially deadly outcome for somebody trapped inside a burning structure.
