City offices closed Nov. 24-25 for Thanksgiving holiday

NORTH LIBERTY– City offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Pool deck resurfacing, closure Nov. 28 to Dec. 28

NORTH LIBERTY– Resurfacing of the indoor pool deck at the North Liberty Recreation Center is anticipated to take place Nov. 28 to Dec. 28. The indoor pool will be closed and all lessons, classes, memberships affected will be refunded to participants for specific time for such work to be completed (at this time is a month’s range). Length of time with exact details will be provided by contractors awarded the project soon.

CCA dancers shine at state competition

NEWTON– Two dancers on the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) dance team were among the top 10 at the 2017 Iowa State Drill Team Association (ISDTA) State Solo Competition held in Newton, Nov. 4-5.
Freshman Peyton Hertel placed eighth in the Class 5 Dance, where Knoxville’s Jaden Hamilton took first. CCA sophomore Angelina Gore placed 10th in the same class, behind Hertel and Ana Zamora of Wahlert Catholic (Dubuque).
ISDTA hosts the largest solo competition in the state with over 600 dances performed.

Cedar Rapids Horsemen’s Club Christmas soup supper Dec. 3

WESTERN– The Cedar Rapids Horsemen’s Club hosts its annuals awards banquet and Christmas soup supper on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the club house, 11808 Club Rd., in Western. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., a meal is served at 6 p.m. and after the meal, Santa Claus will arrive at 7 p.m. Awards will be presented following Santa’s visit. Bring a soup or dessert to share, and a wrapped gift for your child. Santa will distribute these when he comes after dinner. High Point and year-end awards will be presented and announced. DeGowin blood drive Nov. 21 at NL Community Center

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Center, 520 W. Cherry St., is hosting a blood drive by the University of Iowa (UI) DeGowin Blood Center on Monday, Nov. 21, from 3:30-7:30 p.m.
Blood donations will take about 45 minutes and successful donors receive a thank you gift.
The DeGowin Blood Center is a hospital-based blood center collecting blood for UI Hospitals and Clinics and UI Children’s Hospital patients.

Liberty Lightning Bolt Run Nov. 20 at North Central

NORTH LIBERTY– Sign up for the first annual Lightning Bolt 5K Run/Walk and Little Bolt 1-mile Run, held on Sunday, Nov. 20, starting at North Central Junior High, 180 E. Forevergreen Rd., in North Liberty.
Early registration is $20 for the 5K run/walk, $10 for the 1-mile run, and $25 for a joint one adult and one child registration, with an addition $5 per child. Late registration begins after Nov. 12.
Proceeds benefit the Family Resource Centers at Penn, Garner and Van Allen elementary schools, as well as North Central Junior High.

New calculations may change facilities recommendations for CCA

OXFORD– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Community School District fielded a Facilities Planning Committee earlier this year charged with providing guidance to the school board of directors forecasting facilities needs for the foreseeable future. The committee, facilitated by RSP & Associates, an educational planning consulting firm retained by the district for periodic enrollment forecasts, gave their final recommendation to the Board in September.

Apply to the 20th year of the Citizen’s Police Academy

IOWA CITY– Applications to attend the 20th-annual Citizen’s Police Academy will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017. Class size is limited, so early registration is encouraged. Application forms are available at the Iowa City Police Department, Coralville Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, North Liberty Police Department and the University of Iowa Police Department, during normal business hours or via download from the City of North Liberty’s website.

Highway 965 bridge reopens to traffic ahead of schedule, Nov. 11

NORTH LIBERTY– The Johnson County Secondary Road Department announced substantial completion of the Highway 965 bridge project: the Highway 965 bridge reopened to traffic on Friday, Nov. 11, early enough for early morning traffic. The contractor, Cramer and Associates, of Grimes, completed work three weeks ahead of schedule.
