“Although it was a disappointing night, the message to the team was learn from it and to put it behind us,” Williams said. “It is a quick turnaround Saturday.”

Connection fee, doubled water rate proposed

The pros and cons of extending residential water service to a rural subdivision three miles outside the city limits were extensively discussed Wednesday, Dec. 13, during a two-hour work session by the Solon City Council.
Council members were asked to submit any questions necessary to make a decision on Gallery Acres West’s (GAW) request by the end of the year, and they waded through staff responses, with follow-up questions, and listened to opinions from the city engineer and public works director.

Jewell and Jackson - consensus All-Americans

Hawk Talk

Before the season started, Iowa had 23 consensus All-Americans.
Now it has 25.
To be a consensus All-American, you have to be on at least three All-American teams.
Josey Jewell and Josh Jackson were named on the Walter Camp, Associated Press, Sporting News, the AFCA and the FWAA All-American first team squads.
This is the fifth time in Hawkeye program history two Hawks earned consensus All-American in the same season.

Hawk Talk

The Hawkeye men took down Drake Saturday at Des Moines and the women played at The University of Northern Iowa (UNI) Sunday.
The men’s 90-64 win over the Drake Bulldogs last weekend was a little surprising.

Drake led the Gophers at half 28-24, had a 29-4 advantage on bench points and made 12 3-pointers.
Against the Hawkeyes, Drake trailed at half 40-33 and made only nine threes.
The Bulldogs came into the game shooting 42 percent from behind the arc.

The Cribbage dilemma

Food For Thought

Believed to have been invented by the 17th-century English poet Sir John Suckling, Cribbage remains one of the most popular of all card games. A virtual playground for mental math, the game offers numerous ways to pile up impressive point totals from just five cards. A perfect hand totals 29 points, and that’s just the point count from the cards in one hand of play; there are several opportunities to score additional points during play by taking advantage of the cards played by your opponent, as well as the order in which cards are played.
