Faye Swift and her son Matthew have transformed the building at 405 N. Dubuque St. in North Liberty into an eating and drinking establishment offering something unique for anyone’s palate.
On Oct. 29, 1929, the Great Stock Market Crash brought American prosperity to its knees. 16 million shares changed hands on that day− a dramatic occurrence− but it was no more devastating than the creeping depression that had been sucking the life from small businesses and snatching land away from farmers.
The target when firing a tightly rolled newspaper like a torpedo out the window of a car traveling at 30 miles per hour was the middle of the driveway. Lawn on either side allowed for a large margin of error. Not that many sleepy homeowners needed to step off into the grass to get their morning fish wrapper– we were pretty accurate. If a paper strayed off range and under a bush, however, it had to be retrieved– a job that fell to the junior enlisted member of the crew, me.
SHUEYVILLE– The Shueyville United Methodist Church Men’s Group will host a pancake supper on March 27 from 5-8 p.m. Cost for the all-you-can-eat event is $6 for adults and $3 for children. NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Library will offer a cake and cookie decorating class on March 14, 10:30-Noon, in meeting Room B of the Community Center.
The instructor for this class is Greta Reynolds, owner of Teddy Bear Bakery in Iowa City.

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Library and presenter Sarah Uthoff will hold an informative program on Internet genealogy on Thursday, March 12 from 6-8 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring in their own laptops, if possible. Wireless Internet is available. Other participants will share library Internet stations. Advanced sign-up at the circulation desk or by calling 626-5701 is required for this program.
TIFFIN─ There will be a volleyball game Friday, March 6 featuring Clear Creek Amana senior students vs. faculty at Clear Creek Amana High School in Tiffin. Preceding the game a spaghetti supper from Zio Johno’s will be served, with meat or non-meat spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and drink included. The game starts at 7 p.m. with $5 adult and $3 student admission. The spaghetti supper runs from 5-7:30 p.m. and costs $7 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. All proceeds will go to purchase technology equipment for all five Clear Creek Amana schools.

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Optimists will host a Pancake Breakfast Saturday, Mar. 7, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m at the North Liberty Community Center. Tickets are $6, and $2 for children under 10. All proceeds go to the youth of the North Liberty community.
