ICCSD in need of assistance

IOWA CITY– The Iowa City public school headquarters at 509 S. Dubuque St. was piled with boxes for a Nov. 8 school board meeting. The Central Administrative Office (CAO) will move from its spot south of downtown to the former Press-Citizen building at 1725 N. Dodge St. this week. In addition to the CAO, the site will house the Technology Center, and future plans include offices for the Physical Plant and Food Services departments.
The administrative space has been renamed the Educational Services Center and remained open during last week’s move.


Proposed increase in JECC budget causes some to see red

JOHNSON COUNTY– The board that oversees the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center (JECC) has been asked to approve a budget increase for fiscal year 2013.
And some feel it’s too big a request.

F.W. KENT PARK– “If we can’t live by example, then we’re not fulfilling our mission,” said Johnson County Conservation Director Harry Graves, as he showcased his department’s new headquarters building at Kent Park.
The almost 13,000 sq. ft. building houses conservation staff offices and shop facilities in what Graves describes as “about the greenest county building.” Going green wasn’t negotiable, as far as Graves was concerned.
“It’s the right thing to do.”
The Conservation Board decided they wanted to “do everything we could to make it green.”


Heritage Christian School students host annual Veterans Day program

NORTH LIBERTY— Heritage Christian School administrator Mike Annis had two wishes on Veterans Day: that the veterans attending the school’s annual Veterans Day program knew how much they were appreciated; and also that his students would understand the freedom they enjoy today has come at the expense of many before them.

Superintendent calls for more middle school improvements

SOLON– Near the end of a Nov. 14 school board meeting, Solon Superintendent Sam Miller presented a list of items at the middle school to consider for future improvements.
He called the media center at the middle school completely inappropriate and said the school’s entryway should be more inviting and friendly. He thought the gymnasium floor was beyond repair and needed replacing, and also asked if they could improve the lunchroom a little bit.
Miller suggested a walk-through with the board at the building of fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders.


Solon Athletic Booster clothing sale

The Solon Athletic Boosters will be having their clothing open house on Wed., Dec. 7 from 4 until 7:30 p.m. in the HS Commons. Great time to do your holiday shopping.

Barnes and Noble book fair
