“Soul Surfer” (2011, PG) The amazing story of the 13-year-old surfer girl who lost her arm in a shark attack but never lost her faith, and of her triumphant return to competitive surfing.
“Rio” (2011, G) This animated comedy-adventure centers on Blu, a flightless macaw who acts more human than bird. When Blu, the last of his kind, discovers there’s another and that she’s a she, he embarks on an adventure to magical Rio. There, he meets Jewel and a menagerie of vivid characters who help Blu fulfill his dream and learn to fly.


DVDs - Sequels

Trivia Contest

Test your knowledge of the library and its history and win a $20 gift certificate!  Entry forms are available at the library or online.  Entries are due by 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, and the winner will be announced at the party on Sunday afternoon.


Cake Contest

Pick up the rules for the cake baking and decorating contest at the library.  The contest will be held on August 21 in conjunction with the Family Birthday Party.  Entries will be judged by a panel of city officials and prizes will be awarded in several categories including; best decorated, best made from scratch cake, best Spartan cake, and best youth-baked cake.

The library will be closed all day on Aug. 19 in preparation for the Red Carpet Gala that evening.  The staff regrets any inconvenience this may cause.  Please plan your renewals accordingly and remember you can renew online or by phone, as well as in person.

Anniversary celebrations continue

Euchre Tournament Thursday, Aug. 18, 7-9 p.m.– $5 entrance fee with all entrance fees returned in prizes.  Competition will be on an individual basis, not with a traveling partner.  There is not any advanced registration required.
Red Carpet Gala Evening Friday, Aug. 19, 5-8 p.m.  Live entertainment and refreshments (adults only, please).
Family Birthday Party Sunday, Aug. 21, 1:30-3:30 p.m.– includes cake and ice cream, activities for the kids, prizes, cake contest.

SOLON– The Solon Senior Advocates wish to invite all Solon seniors to sign-up for the Wednesday, Aug. 17, sponsored meal at the Solon Public Library. The senior meal, usually served at the Old Gold Dining location at the Methodist Church, is being held at the library as part of the 10th anniversary celebration. This will be an opportunity to see and learn of the Library’s 10 years of growth and success and the important role it plays in the community while sharing a meal with friends and neighbors.


Solon Athletics Boosters’ Booster Bash Aug. 20

SOLON– The 11th Annual Booster Bash will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, at Saddleback Ridge Golf Course in Solon, with a shotgun tee-off at 1:30 p.m. The entry fee for each golfer is $100, which includes: a golf shirt, sleeve of golf balls, lunch, two drink tickets, seven-hole prizes, 18 holes of golf with a cart, a chance to win $20,000 with a hole-in-one, at least one door prize, and cash prizes awarded to first and second place in each of the three-flights. Register now for Parks & Rec. football and soccer

SOLON– The Solon Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting registration forms for flag football and soccer for the upcoming fall seasons.
Registration forms can be found online at www.solon-iowa.com and will be delivered to Solon Community School District on the first day of classes (Aug. 24). Soccer will be offered to kids ages fourth through sixth grade while flag football will be offered to fifth and sixth graders. Sign up today and you’ll have some fun!
