Local Scout seeking food drive donations

SHUEYVILLE– A local Scout is pursing his Eagle Scout project while helping others.
Colton Valenta, a member of St. Paul’s Church and Scout Troop # 37, supported by Shueyville Methodist Church, is seeking donations of non-perishable food items to benefit the Mission of Hope on First Avenue in Cedar Rapids. Valenta is asking for non-perishable items to be donated in boxes in area Fareway stores or at the following churchs: St. Paul’s Methodist; St. James Methodist; Trinity Methodist; Vineyard Church; First Lutheran Church; St. Stephen’s Lutheran; and the Shueyville Methodist Church.


Lakeview PTO launches fundraiser

SOLON– The Lakeview Elementary School PTO is selling coupons sheets to Carlos O‘Kelly’s and Applebee’s. These coupons sheets are a great deal and can pay for themselves after only one visit. Coupon sheets are $10 per sheet and will be available for sale by Lakeview students or in the Lakeview office from Friday, Sept. 16, through Monday, Oct. 3.  Please help support the Lakeview PTO by purchasing one or more of these coupons sheets. The Lakeview PTO receives 99 percent of the proceeds from sales of the coupon sheets.


American Legion Riders raffle

SOLON– The Solon American Legion Riders have launched their fall raffle. Funds from the raffle are used in various community projects– including providing an annual scholarship to a Solon graduating senior whose parent or grandparent has served in the military, and sending Christmas care packages to local service personnel serving around the world during the holiday season.
