Foreign exchange students

Solon students grades seven through12, and families, have the opportunity once again to host a student from Japan. The students will be in Solon for three weeks. The dates are Feb. 25 until March 18. If you are interested, please pick up an application in the middle school or high school offices. Applications were due back to the school office by Jan. 31.


Solon Dollars for Scholars ‘Bringin’ in the Green’ carnival March 4

Attn: Juniors and seniors:
The Solon Dollars for Scholars “Bringin’ in the Green” carnival will be held on Sunday, March 4, at the Lakeview gym. We need juniors, seniors and their parents to help make the carnival a success this again this year. All the money raised will be used for scholarships for the Solon graduating class of 2012. Sign-up sheets are in the high school office or contact Pat Zimmerman at 319-430-2105 for more information.

Storytime returns

Join Miss Jen on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 10:30 a.m. for Storytime with a Valentine’s Day theme.
Storytime gathers in the meeting room and is open to all children age two to five, their caregivers and siblings.


Final Fridays Café

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) opened their Final Fridays Café for the first time on Friday, Jan, 27, and although the weather was a little nasty, a good first time crowd came to show their support. Besides good conversation and refreshments, the draw of the day was a raffle for the beautiful “Death By Oreo Cake” made by TAB’s very own AJ Ressler. The lucky winner was Shelby Beranek.


Community book discussion March 1

The Solon Public Library and the Solon High School (SHS) anatomy and physiology class are partnering to offer a community discussion of the award winning book, “The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks.” Please join the community forum Thursday, March 1, at the SHS media center. Bring your own brown bag lunch for a meet and greet from 11:30 until noon or come for the conversation noon until 12:55 p.m. Copies of Rebecca Skloots’ book are available from the SHS media center or the library.

It’s Oscar contest time

It’s Oscar time. Pick up your ballots at the library to enter the “Predict the Oscars” contest. This is a full 24-category contest with a prize package worth over $40. Plus win the “first check out” privileges for all best picture nominated films that arrive at the library after the Oscars (Feb. 26). Ballots are due at the library by 5 p.m. on Feb. 25.
