Just for Kix is just spectacular!

SOLON– Just For Kix dancers kicked it up a notch at the Solon’s high school dance squad’s eighth annual Dance Spectacular in Solon on Friday, Feb. 17. Solon hosted over 200 dancers from area dance, pom and cheer squads, as well as dancers from North Liberty’s Just for Kix program to provide an opportunity for teams and individuals to perform for a packed house.


CCA’s “dangerous” offense hopes to return to state soccer tournament

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) boys’ soccer team made its first state tournament appearance last year and hopes to repeat this season, albeit with better results. Eventual champion Cedar Rapids Xavier knocked out the Clippers 2-0 in the quarterfinal round in Des Moines.
The Clippers had an 11-5 record overall, 6-4 in the WaMaC.


CCA shines at WaMaC indoor track meet

MOUNT VERNON— Tuesday, March 20, was the boys’ turn at the WaMaC indoor meet. As on the day before for the girls, the weather outside was nearly perfect for a track meet. Inside, the action was hot as the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers posted five wins and set three new meet records.

MOUNT VERNON— If the sun is shining and temperatures are unseasonably warm in mid-March, it can mean only one thing. It’s time for the WaMaC high school indoor track meet. Again this year, exceptional weather conditions were in abundance outside while the ladies of the WaMaC track and field teams gathered in the dimly lit Cornell College Recreation Center.
For Jane Astor’s Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers, the day netted four wins as Celine Fender, Maddie Hinsley, the 4x200-meter relay squad and the distance medley relay squad won their events.

NORTH LIBERTY– One dish. That’s the secret for many restaurants to succeed. If you get that one dish right, the customers will come.
For Zameer Kahn, owner of the new Zaika Restaurant in North Liberty, that dish is Ghobi Manchurian, which features breaded and fried cauliflower (ghobi) covered in a mildly spicy red sauce.
Kahn said he created his special recipe for the Indochinese dish and others have copied it. Laughing, he said he’s seen it on the menu at other area restaurants.


Summer of commuter discontent looms near

SHUEYVILLE– Bids for the reconstruction of 120th St. through this northwest Johnson County community came in under estimates earlier this month. The Johnson County Board of Supervisors received and opened bids for the projected $2.2 million construction effort on Tuesday, March 6.
Metro Pavers submitted a bid of $1,852,952.14 for the lowest bid.
Shueyville Mayor Bryan Bredman said his city council reviewed the bids Wednesday night, March 7, and voted to recommend the board of supervisors accept Metro Paving’s bid. The supervisors did so on Friday morning, March 9, with a 5-0 vote.


CCA ‘Night of Jazz and Winston Byrd’ to be Saturday, March 31

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) music departments will be spotlighting their jazz programs on Saturday, March 31, with their annual “Night of Jazz.” The concert will feature a special guest, jazz artist Winston Byrd. Mr. Byrd and his powerhouse trumpet wizardry will be working with the junior and senior high school jazz bands and performing with both bands on the concert.


Spartan trapshooting team to hold fundraising can drive March 31

NORTH LIBERTY– The Spartan trapshooting team will hold a can drive at the North Liberty American Legion Club 76 on Saturday, March 31, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the 2012 spring competition.

North Bend Elementary spring extravaganza to be March 30

NORTH LIBERTY– North Bend Elementary’s Parent-Teacher Group (PTG) will be hosting a spring extravaganza fundraiser featuring a vendor show and silent auction Friday, March 30, at the Bella Sala reception and banquet facility east of Tiffin off Highway 6.
The silent auction runs from 5 until 8 p.m., with the vendor show from 4 until 9 p.m.


Parent University to be March 29

NORTH LIBERTY–Parent University will be held Thursday, March 29, from 6-7:30 pm. at Van Allen Elementary School, 170 Abigail Rd., North Liberty. Childcare (for children toilet trained and older only) will be provided at no charge.
Learn about practical tools that can be applied at home at a free event for all parents and caregivers of school-aged children.
“Classroom Tips and Tricks that Can Work at Home” will be presented by speakers Amy Graber and Kristi Miller, both licensed school social workers from Grant Wood Area Education Agency.
