Don’t be D-ficient

SOLON– Are you sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, especially in the winter? If you are like most of us, one of the main reasons you feel this way is due to a lack of sunlight and vitamin D. Our bodies naturally produce vitamin D when we receive direct skin exposure to sunlight. In fact, we are supposed to get 90 percent of our vitamin D from the sun. This becomes a real challenge living in Iowa during the primary winter months, November through February. In the winter, the sun is not as powerful and our bodies are simply unable to produce ample amounts of vitamin D.

Spartans ousted in substate final by Assumption

IOWA CITY– “It was a game where you couldn’t have too many bad possessions in a row,” Solon Head Coach Brad Randall said. “You have to play pretty flawless to beat them.”
The Solon Spartans fell behind Davenport Assumption in the first quarter of a Class 3A substate final last Monday night, and couldn’t overcome a double-digit lead, losing 59-40.
Solon had trouble keeping up with Assumption’s transition offense, and Assumption’s defense prevented Solon’s Turner Wentzien from scoring until well into the fourth period.
