SOLON– The Girl Scout troops of Solon would like to offer a free tree to anyone in the Solon area to commemorate the organization’s century celebration. The red maple and white spruce trees have been purchased through the National Arbor Day Foundation. Both are selected for quick growth and will do well in this area at this time in a variety of soil conditions. If cared for (watered), the trees should last for years to come. If interested, the Solon Girl Scouts request the following:
• Call Iowa One Call and mark the place you would like the tree planted;

DES MOINES– The number three loomed large for Solon’s girls in the 2012 State Track and Field Meet held May 17-19 in Des Moines. Dubuque Wahlert, Davenport Assumption and Solon– the three teams who finished in that order at state last year– showed the same finish in the toughest Class 3A district meet earlier this month. And they finished in just that order again at State 2012, outdistancing the rest of the 3A field at Drake’s University’s Blue Oval.

SOLON– St. Mary Catholic Church, Solon United Methodist Church and Our Lord’s Church of Solon are co-sponsoring a community support group for those experiencing loss in their lives. “Griefshare” will begin Thursday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the library at St. Mary. “Griefshare” is a program to help individuals cope with the loss of a loved one.
