Teachers to get four percent pay increase

IOWA CITY– The teachers’ union collectively bargained in Iowa City last month for a 4.2 percent raise, ratifying a new contract with the Iowa City Community School District.
Iowa City Education Association bargaining representative Tom Yates, who claimed to have the power to say yes, no, or maybe as a negotiator for the teachers, said the two sides had easily reached the agreement because of their thoroughness and clarity.
“We don’t have a lot of issues of people feeling their being taken advantage of from either side,” he said.

But the sixth annual North Liberty Blues & BBQ offers one more incentive to come out and enjoy the day on Saturday, May 26.

Red’s Alehouse of North Liberty is the title sponsor for the festival’s beverage garden this year, and Red’s is brining in locally-crafted microbrews, to add another level of good taste to the growing community festival.


Ancestor, inhabitant share memories of Ranshaw House

NORTH LIBERTY– A refined cheer from a small crowd arose in the North Liberty City Council chambers last Thursday, May 3, as supporters of restoring the Ranshaw House celebrated more good news.


Dog microchipping clinic May 12

CORALVILLE– A microchip clinic will be sponsored by MidWestOne Bank and Friends of the Animal Center Foundation on Saturday, May 12, (rain or shine) from 9 a.m. until noon at MidWestOne Bank, 110 First Ave. in Coralville. Cost is $5 per dog (cash or checks only). The event is first-come, first-served and open to the public (no early birds please).


Shueyville High School alumni banquet held

SHUEYVILLE– The 121st annual Shueyville High School alumni banquet was held Friday, April 27, at the Shueyville United Methodist Church. Dinner was served at 5:30 p.m. by the Shueyville United Methodist Women.
The 60-year class of 1952 attended. Members of the class are: Marilyn Benesh Ziscovsky, Fern Kaplan Fackler, Gae Leuttijohn Castek, Howard Novotny, Kenneth Matyk, Donna Jean Slezak Palvis, Evelyn Wolf Vileta, and Roman Zach. All were present except Kenneth Matyk. His wife had a mini stroke the week before and he could not attend. Kenneth lives in Colorado.


Girls blow by competition

VINTON– The points came from all over as the Spartans ran away with the WaMaC Conference girls track meet May 3 in Vinton. Nearly doubling the score over runner-up West Delaware, Solon picked up points from 19 girls. They now look toward this week’s state qualifying meet.

SOLON– Not only did the Solon girls’ soccer team lose its first game of the season last week, but they also lost three players to injuries.

VINTON– The Solon varsity boys’ track team finished fifth in a very strong field of 16 teams at the WaMaC conference super-meet held Thursday in Vinton. Team scores were as follows:

New Lakeview arrival/dismissal

Please follow these new procedures
Arrival
All buses will begin to drop off students in the new area on west side of the building. No buses will be entering the front (east) parking lot area.
Staff only will park on the west side of the building in the new parking lots.
No parent drop offs, walkers or bikers can enter the bus area or staff parking lots. Parents and visitors need to use the front (east) parking lots only.


Dance team coupon collection

Thank you. The high school dance team is almost to their goal of sending $5,000 in coupons to a U.S. Naval base in Atsugi, Japan. To date, $4,924 in valuable coupons have been sent. One last mailing will go out before the end of the school year and then the team is taking a short break this summer. Please send your coupons to Marjorie Lane at the high school by May 25.
