SOLON– Keep it simple. That’s the advice Jeff Kapparos, director of the Southeast Linn Community Center, gave Solon food pantry organizers who were seeking a model for housing and sharing food with those who are struggling to feed their families.
“Don’t make it more difficult than it needs to be,” he said.
The plain-spoken advice from Kapparos, who helps run the Lisbon food pantry serving Southeast Linn County families, came as the Solon food pantry gets set to open its doors on June 4 for the first time to redistribute donated food to those in need.

Delpha M. Tressler, 77, of Oelwein, formerly of Hazleton, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Oelwein Health Care Center. Funeral Service was held April 30 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with Chaplain Denise Lindeman officiating. Interment was at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.

Scott Thomas “Scooter” Penrod, 48, of Swisher, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services were held May 4 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Chaplain Bobby Dickerson. Burial was at Lisbon Cemetery, Lisbon.
Survivors include his wife Rhonda; two brothers, Douglas Penrod of Davenport, and Kenneth Penrod of Kansas City, Kan.; one sister, Tracie Homewood of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews; brother and sisters-in-law; many friends and co-workers.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Evelyn L. Allen Benedict, 77, of Kalona, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. A celebration of life was held May 1 at the Oxford United Methodist Church with burial following at the Harrington Cemetery, York Township of Iowa County.
