TIFFIN– The Tiffin City Council held its first meeting of the month Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the Springmier Community Library with a lengthy agenda.
Continuing a process started earlier this year to bring three outlying areas into the growing city, the council held more discussion of annexation. City Administrator/City Clerk Michon Jackson said residents in the “Priority One” area, which is bordered by 340th Street on the north, Hwy. 218 on the east, 360th Street on the south and Jasper Avenue on the west, will receive another letter, probably before the end of the month.

SOLON– For Patrick McGill, it was a job well run. Twice.
Job One was apparent. McGill was the first Spartan runner across the finish line at the Solon Invitational cross country meet. The junior finished 13th in 17:36, as Solon finished fourth in the nine-team boys’ race. “The course was fast. It helped that (teammate) Zach Slusher pushed me to the end,” said McGill.

SOLON– The Lady Spartans have made the most out of their three homes matches, but the next two are biggies.
Solon’s varsity volleyball squad returned home for a 3-0 sweep of Central DeWitt last week after taking northern road trips to face Western Dubuque and Dyersville Beckman. Beckman stretched the Lady Spartans out to five games, while Solon made short work of Western Dubuque.
Coming up, however, are home matches (Oct. 2 and Oct. 4) against two highly ranked teams in West Delaware (4A, No. 6) and Mount Vernon (3A, No. 7).

On Oct. 5, sixth, eighth and 11th grade students will be completing the 2012 Iowa Youth Survey Online. Since 1975, students in Iowa have been filling out this questionnaire to provide information about their values, beliefs, attitudes and activities. Participation in the survey is anonymous and strictly voluntary, and no student is required to fill out the questionnaire. An informational letter including a refusal of consent form will be sent home with students on Sept. 24. The survey will take one class period, approximately 45 minutes, to complete.
