SOLON– If you looked at the offensive stats, this game didn’t look bad for Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) Clippers.
But if you looked at the score, it was another story.
The Clippers traveled to Solon Friday evening and ended up as fodder for the Spartans’ Homecoming celebration in a 42-7 loss, moving the Clippers to a 1-3 record and a third consecutive loss.
The Clippers racked up over 300 yards of offense, but penalties and miscues plagued CCA.

West escapes CR Prairie undefeated

By Chris Umscheid
North Liberty Leader

CEDAR RAPIDS– The West High Trojans survived their greatest threat so far this season, escaping from Cedar Rapids Prairie with a 21-14 win and keeping their record perfect at 4-0.
“Prairie plays us tougher than anybody,” coach Brian Sauser said after the win on a bizarre night. “It’s fun when we get out there and score 50, 60 points. But to gut-out a win in a tough place to play is huge.”

Connect with NL though smartphone app

NORTH LIBERTY– The City of North Liberty has released an app for iOS and Android smartphones that allows users to contact elected officials and city staff, report non-emergency issues, stay up-to-date on city news and events, and get directions to the city’s recreation facilities.
“We want our residents to have quick access to the information they need and be able to easily let us know about issues we need to address,” said Nick Bergus, the city’s communications director. “We know many of our residents carry smartphones, so an app was a natural way to help them connect with us.”

NL will have county’s first vote center for Nov. 5 city election

NORTH LIBERTY– All North Liberty city election voters will be able to vote at Johnson County’s first ever vote center on Nov. 5. The vote center at South Slope Communications, 980 N. Front St., will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Recent changes in state law allow auditors to combine precincts into vote centers for all non-partisan elections to save costs and increase voter convenience.
The vote center will have five to eight workers, instead of the minimum 18 workers that would have been required at six polling places, for an estimated savings of from $2,000 to $2,500.
