Solon council to consider golf cart license plates

By Doug Lindner
Solon Economist
SOLON– The City is looking to bring a little clarity to its golf cart ordinance.
Especially for law enforcement officers.
The members of the Solon City Council are scheduled to consider, at a Feb. 3 meeting, revisions to the city law which allows for the operation of golf carts as a street-legal means of transportation within the city limits.
The law has been on the books since 2011, but changes were discussed when council members considered and then defeated a similar municipal rule for utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) on city streets.

Hawkeye Men 8-1 in Big Ten

Well, they did it again.
The Big Ten showed the North Liberty Leader sports staff no respect.
Okay, I’m the only one on the staff covering the Hawkeyes, but the Big Ten scheduled two Iowa games on Thursday last week, men’s and women’s basketball, and one started at 6 p.m., one at 7 p.m.
To top that off, they scheduled Iowa men’s and women’s basketball games on Sunday, both against Northwestern and both starting at 2 p.m.
The men and women both beat the Wildcats that day so that helps.

Inverness proved to be a good choice for headquarters for exploring the Withlacooche Trail.
The name of the town comes from a homesick European settler; the name of the trail comes from native Americans which should mean “dig here for sand.” No joke, the Sunshine State appears to be nothing more than a giant sand bar with funny sounding names producing Republican presidential candidates.

Sending Valentines

food for thought

Valentine’s Day is still 10 days away, but it’s not too soon to start thinking about ways to observe it. Maybe you haven’t sent any valentines to anyone, except your spouse or your grandkids, for years. Maybe not since grade school when it was a welcome break from winter routines and somebody’s mother brought heart-shaped cookies to school for you and your classmates.
