UICCU presents site plan

NORTH LIBERTY– It will be the first of its kind in North Liberty.
The University of Iowa Community Credit Union (UICCU) presented its commercial development site plan to the North Liberty City Council on Aug. 9 for the four-story building to be built on 24.5 acres just off Kansas Avenue and north of St. Andrews Drive.
The building will also be one of the first in the city’s newly-designated office/research park districts, in keeping with an amendment to the zoning code that created specific zoning for larger, corporate development such as this.

Moratorium misgivings

NORTH LIBERTY– A proposed annexation moratorium between North Liberty and Coralville will not serve to freeze land annexation as effectively as it will freeze out residents, some say.
Historically, that’s how members of Citizens for Sensible Development (CSD), a group of residents who live in the currently unincorporated area between the two growing communities, have felt in their efforts to be heard: frozen out of the conversation.

CCA board to see four newcomers

TIFFIN– Voters last Tuesday, Sept. 13, went to the polls to select replacements for four out-going members of the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Board of Directors. President Tim Hennes, Kevin Kinney, Betsy Momany and Kathi Huebner decided not to run for re-election. The decisions opened up the Director District 1 and 3 seats as well as a pair of at-large seats.

Keeping farm families alive and well

By Chris Umscheid
North Liberty Leader
IOWA CITY– According to the National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH), agriculture is one of the nation’s most hazardous occupations. On average, 550 farmers die in agriculture related incidents every year. One-hundred kids, on average, are also killed on the farm. In Iowa, approximately 30 deaths per year occur, with three to four of those being children.
Obvious dangers include machinery, livestock and chemical exposure. However, death also comes from chronic conditions built up over time.
