Walkin'

I went Turkey hunting for the first time with the opening of this year’s season.
By turkey, I’m not talking about the guitarist-turned-NRA Board Member Ted Nugent. He’s a turkey, but in the figurative sense.
The “Motor City Madman” has been in the news a lot lately.

Hawk Talk

I used to enjoy watching the NFL draft when it was on Saturday and Sunday.
You could have the TV on and be doing other things while watching because you didn’t have to watch every minute.
Most of the time you had someone like Mel Kiper, Jr., who has been on ESPN as a draft analyst since 1984, breaking down each player and that gets a little old after five to 10 days of pre-draft talk.
Last year, they moved the draft to prime time on Thursday and Friday night and I miss the all-day Saturday and Sunday event.

Former Solon resident puts his chainsaw to work for Penn school

NORTH LIBERTY– A panther has been unleashed at Penn Elementary School; not from chains or the bars of an iron cage, but from a 500-pound log of soft pine.
Pat Doyle is a former Solon resident who has carved quite a niche for himself, creating a successful business using a chain saw and his God-given talents. He came to Penn school in North Liberty on Friday, April 13, to craft a wooden rendition of the school’s mascot for a permanent display honoring Penn’s 50th year in the Iowa City Community School District.
