Donald Copeland

Donald L. Copeland 81, of Solon, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services were held Sept. 19 at Shueyville United Methodist Church in Shueyville, with burial following in the Shueyville Cemetery.

Marvin Hain

Marvin Dwight Hain, 74, of Coralville died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012. Funeral Services were held Sept. 25 at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The American Heart Association.
Marvin was born on Nov. 13, 1937, in Indianola. He was the first of three sons born to Albert L. and Dorothy (Lauck) Hain. The family moved to Winterset, where Marvin received his schooling and graduated from Winterset High School in 1956. In the fall of 1956 Marvin attended the University of Iowa.

Leelyn Miller

Leelyn Dean Miller, 92, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at Mercy Iowa City. A Celebration of Life service was held Sept. 21, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English, with Pastor Edwin Jordan officiating. Burial was in the North English Cemetery. Cari Patterson-Werner

Cari Patterson-Werner, 46, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Brosh Chapel in Solon with Revs. Brooke Simpson and Bruce Wintern presiding. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon.

Donald Pirkl

Donald “Don” F. Pirkl, 78, of Tiffin, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville. Funeral services were held Sept. 21 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tiffin.

Richard Wood Reid

Dr. Richard Wood Reid, DDS, 84, of Tipton, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral services were held Sept. 19 at First United Church of Christ, Tipton, with Pastor David Lorenzen officiating. Burial followed at Union Cemetery in Maquoketa.

Harvey Rupe

Harvey Rupe, 91, of Tipton, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Graveside funeral services were held Sept. 18 at Tipton Masonic Cemetery, with military rites by the Tipton VFW and Tipton American Legion.

Norward Snell

Norward “Bob” Snell, 66, of Cedar Rapids, died at Mercy Medical Center on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012. Memorial Services were held Sept. 18 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Inurnment was in St. John Cemetery.
Bob was born Sept. 11, 1946, in Chicago. He married Mary Hernandez in Anamosa on June 28, 1989. She died in 2009. Bob was like a godfather to all his friends and was known for his generosity.
Local survivors include his daughter Maria (Etu) Chaffee of North Liberty.
Memorials may be directed to the family.

Dorothy Mae Steinocher

Dorothy Mae Steinocher, 85, of Rogers, Ark. passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. She was born in Mechanicsville, on May 10, 1927, to the late Harold and Libby (Hartman) Longerbeam.

Hawk Talk

Last week I talked about how tough it was for me and a lot of fans when the Hawkeyes lose a football game. It seems like the week takes forever and there are a lot of negative waves out there.
When the Hawks lose, 32-31, to a team that they are favored to beat by 15 points, the sky will surely be falling.
Central Michigan had a bye week so they had two weeks to get ready for Iowa. They sure did a good job, especially on offense.
We’ll look at the good, bad and ugly this week.
