Solon takes first at North Linn

TROY MILLS– It takes a team to come out on top.
That’s exactly what the Solon varsity wrestlers proved last weekend at the North Linn Varsity Lynx Invitational. All the Spartans showed up to wrestle Saturday, Dec. 17, in Troy Mills, taking first place ahead of Williamsburg.
“Anytime you can get all 14 wrestlers to place and score points as a team, that’s a great thing,” said Solon Head Coach Blake Williams. “That’s how you’re going to win tournaments like that– getting contributions from all 14, not just the champions.”

Hawkeye men cruise over UNI

I thought the Hawks had a good chance of knocking off the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) Panthers last Saturday in Des Moines, but a 23-point win?
Are you serious?
It just seemed like everything Iowa did was successful and everything UNI did wasn’t.
One of the toughest things to teach freshmen is defense.
Not just man-to-man defense, but zone defense, help defense and communicating on defense.
Iowa starts two freshmen, a redshirt freshman, one sophomore and a senior.
Only Peter Jok and Ahmad Wagner played together last season.
