Vinton Shellsburg, Western Dubuque win WaMaC meet at CCA

TIFFIN– The Vinton-Shellsburg boys and Western Dubuque girls were crowned WaMaC conference champions Thursday, May 5, at the conference track and field meet, hosted by Clear Creek Amana (CCA) in Tiffin.

Cedar Falls wins MVC Golf Super Meet

IOWA CITY– The Cedar Falls Tigers won the 2016 Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) Golf Super Meet Monday, May 2, at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City. The Tigers’ team score of 335 was the best of the 14-team field. The West High Women of Troy were fourth, with 352, while the host Little Hawks were eighth, with 386, tying Dubuque Wahlert Catholic.
Dubuque Senior’s Maddie Hawkins was the medalist with 72.
Jordan Amelon led West High with 78.

Women of Troy fall at home to Linn-Mar

Lions roar 8-1 on the tennis courts

IOWA CITY– The West High tennis Women of Troy faced a nearly unbeaten Linn-Mar squad Thursday, May 5, at home. The Lions took the match, 8-1, and improved their record to 12-1 while dropping west to 9-4 overall.
Elise Chang scored West’s sole victory with a 10-3 win over Linn-Mar’s Katie Nowak.

West boys stay perfect against Cedar Falls

Trojans overpower Tigers, 3-1

IOWA CITY– The West High varsity soccer boys improved to 11-0 on the season Tuesday, May 3, at home against the Cedar Falls Tigers with a 3-1 win.
A pair of Nick’s accounted for all three of the Trojans’ goals, Nicholas Pitcher booted in two and Nicholas Raley put in one. Pitcher made four passes, Raley had two and Jackson Nasby made one. Nasby also made an assist in the match.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-9 on the season.

West girls take MVC for the 15th time

Women of Troy win eight events at MVC Valley Division Championship

CEDAR RAPIDS– For the 15th time, the Iowa City West High Women of Troy were crowned as the Valley Division Champions for the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVCV). West won the divisional meet Thursday, May 5, at Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids with 142 team points. Linn-Mar was a distant second with 104.5.

NL American Legion Memorial Day schedule

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty American Legion Memorial Day flag raising schedule will be: 9:30 a.m. Ridgewood Cemetery.
Following the ceremony at Ridgewood, the Legion representatives will travel to Club 76, at 3949 Mehaffey Bridge Road, for another flag ceremony.
At 1:30 p.m., East Overlook at Coralville Lake, and at 6 p.m. at the Sutliff Bridge.

City-wide garage sales June 9-12

NORTH LIBERTY– Local organizers have selected the weekend of June 10 for city-wide garage sales in North Liberty and have set up a website with information for sellers and buyers: northlibertygaragesales.com.
In addition to the website, garage-sale-goers will be able to pull up a mobile-friendly Google Map and find nearby sales by item categories.
“I always thought it was one of those things dying for an upgrade,” said organizer Lydia Fine. “I just wanted to make it easier for people to find what they need.”

Farmer’s Market Sundays 11-2

NORTH LIBERTY– Starting in May, the North Liberty Farmers Market at Penn Landing will be ready to serve up hot food, fresh music, crisp produce, gorgeous crafts, delectable baked goods and more from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday, off Pacha Parkway by Highway 965 and Penn Street.

NORTH LIBERTY– Attorneys Michael Clark and Scott Schroeder have known each other for more than 25 years. They both attended the University of Iowa as undergraduates then went to Drake University Law School together. In the past 21 years of being prosecuting attorneys, Clark and Schroeder estimate they had 100 or more cases against each other.

Tiffin city wide clean-up day May 14

TIFFIN– City Clean-up Day will be May 14 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. If you are unable to bring your items to the City Shed, contact City Hall to schedule a time so members of Tiffin Fire Department can pick up your items. The Tiffin Fire Department asks for donations of $25/truck-load paid by cash or check, payable to Tiffin Fire Department. Payment must be received prior to pick up. Please do not dispose of batteries, paint, tires, or any other hazardous materials.
