Ronald Roy Hanus, 46, pled guilty to 14 counts including three counts of trapping and killing three red-tailed hawks, three counts of attempted take of raptors, three counts of trapping with exposed bait, four counts of failing to tag traps and one count of trapping furbearing animals without a fur harvester’s license.

Food For Thought

May has way too much going for it, especially if you have a child in school. There are May Day, Mother’s Day, proms, sports award ceremonies, graduations, track meets, school programs, concerts and plays. (Do schools still have class picnics and senior skip-day?) And, in my family, there were birthdays to celebrate. Those birthdays were at the top of the list because they are personal celebrations for individuals rather than holidays for everyone or days set aside for large groups of people.

Basketball wrap-up

The Hawkeye men’s basketball team finally did something it hasn’t done in four years... have a winning record.
Four straight losing seasons were tough to deal with for a Hawkeye fan like me who has been following them since the mid ‘60s.
Iowa finished with an 18-17 record, won a Big Ten tournament game and an NIT game.
I had a chance to sit down with assistant coach Sherman Dillard last week to talk about last season, the players coming back and the new recruits.
