NORTH LIBERTY- The Neighborhood Challenge Food Drive is a unique opportunity to serve our neighbors. It gives residents of North Liberty a simple way to help those in need in our community during this difficult economic time. The goal for this drive is to collect 5,000 pounds of food, or about one pound per household. Simply leave your donation by your front door and a volunteer will pick it up on Sunday, July 19, starting at 2 p.m. The neighborhood with the highest average donation per household wins! We also accept monetary donations (which are tax deductible) if you prefer.

IOWA CITY– Riverside Theatre announces auditions on Saturday, July 18, beginning at 3:30 p.m. for roles in the musical comedy, “A Dog’s Life,” opening Sept. 11. To schedule an audition, call the box office at (319) 338-7672.
Roles are currently available for three performers, ages 20s-30s: Jack, a sweet tempered, fairly simply dog, tenor or high baritone; Big Dog, an older and wiser dog, baritone; Little Dog, a diminutive dog with an anger management problem, mezzo.
Audition requirements: brief contemporary monologue, 16 bars of upbeat tempo song, cold reading. Accompanist provided.

NORTH LIBERTY– On Sunday, August 9, Grace Community Church will be doing something they have never done before. Instead of members attending a worship service that morning, the congregation of 800 to 900 will be challenged to go into the community and participate in service projects. These projects are being planned in North Liberty, Coralville and Iowa City.

Our imaginary trip to Egypt took my summertime art students and me to our basement for a part of the session. A rainy day prevented us from enjoying the outdoors while we learned about Egyptian art. The basement was gloomy and windowless – perfect for setting the mood for painting the walls of a tomb. Since our “cave” had pretty much consumed all the available cardboard boxes, I “borrowed” a couple nice panels of plywood from my husband and allotted each child enough space to tell a story, comic strip fashion.

SOLON– Beekeeper and state park manager Ron Puettmann will be holding this year’s second honeybee program near Lake Macbride State Park primitive campground on Saturday, July 18 at 1:00 p.m. This interpretive series on honeybees and beekeeping offers participants the opportunity to examine the inside of a real beehive from the security of screened tents located next to the hive.
