Emily Cornelis

Emily Mae Cornelis, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a brief illness. Services were held Nov. 7 at Hrabak Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles Johnson. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Local survivors include a daughter, Janice (Jim) Hinschberger of Solon.

Rachel Duncalf

Rachel Mae Duncalf, 93, Van Horne, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center, Keystone, where she had been a resident since March. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Nov. 3, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Van Horne with Father Brian Dellaert as celebrant. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery near Keystone.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Friends of the Van Horne Library.
Rachel was born Sept. 21, 1918, at Van Horne, to Clifford O. and Hazel Blanche (Mayhew) Stewart and graduated from the Van Horne High School.

Dixie Ellison

Dixie Lee Ellison, 76, of Martelle, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Services were held Nov. 4 at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa where the Rev. John Keizer officiated. Interment was at Norwich Cemetery in Martelle.
Local survivors include her sister, Joan Weber of Solon.

Angela Engelbrecht

Angela Joy Engelbrecht, 88, of Dyersville, formerly of Fort Dodge, died peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville. Visitation and funeral services were held Nov 1, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where Mrs. Nancy Lange officiated. Burial was at North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge.

Lina Hale

Lina O. Hale, 91, of Monmouth, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A celebration of her life was held Nov. 2, at Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Maquoketa. Burial was at the Buckhorn Cemetery, rural Maquoketa.
Lina Olive Siegel was born on Dec. 23, 1919, in rural Baldwin. She was the youngest daughter of Henry C. and Ida L. (Oetken) Siegel. She attended the Emeline Country School and graduated from Maquoketa Community High School in 1937. She married Stanley L. Hale on June 26, 1939, in Maquoketa. He preceded her in death on June 25, 2010.

Richard Held Sr.

Richard H. Held Sr., 80, of Marion, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services were held Nov. 5 at Garden View Chapel in Waterloo. Burial was in Garden of Memories, Waterloo.
Local survivors include a daughter Monica (Jeff) Simmons of Ely.

Janet Miller

Janet A. (Young) Miller, 66, of Swisher, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at the Dennis Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Memorial services were held Nov. 3 at Hope Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids by Pastor Dan Clark-Bridges. Arrangements were by Murdoch-Linwood Funereal Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids.

Richard Lee Pearl

Richard Lee Pearl, 62, of Washington, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at Washington County Hospital. Services were held Monday, Nov. 7, at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation was Monday at Brosh Chapel in Solon.
Richard was born Oct. 20, 1949, in Bloomington, Ill., to Donald and Roma (Lewis) Pearl.

Leslie Pirkl

Leslie Ann (Morrison) Pirkl, 48, died Nov. 1, 2011, after a 17-month battle with brain cancer. Funeral services were held Nov. 7 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Brent Hartwig officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Leslie was born Oct. 4, 1963, in Seymour, Ind., the daughter of Edgar and Sandra (Stanfield) Morrison. Leslie moved to Iowa City in 1980 and graduated from City High School in 1983. On April 17, 1993, Leslie married Edward “Edd” Pirkl at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Local survivors include a sister-in-law Christine (Clayton) Land of Swisher.

Janice Underdahl

Janice K. Underdahl, 64, of Solon, formerly of West Union, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011. Burnham-Wood and S.K. Rogers Funeral Home, West Union.
