Two hundred points and five sets later, the Lady Spartans were displaying their homemade conference championship banner on the floor of last year’s state runner-up.
Solon defeated West Delaware 25-16, 27-25, 25-14, 22-25, 15-11.

Leading the attack was senior quarterback J.J. Hanus with 105 rushing yards and 45 passing.
Solon held the Raiders scoreless in the first two quarters, taking a 17-0 lead into halftime.

TROY MILLS– Avenging a 2010 bump to second place, the Solon girls took the championship this year at the Oct. 8 North Linn Invitational. With all five scoring runners in the top 16 and a team score of 34 points, the Spartans ran away from last year’s winner– Benton Community– and the rest of the field. Twenty-two teams; ranked, unranked, 3A, 2A and 1A, full and partial squads crowded the starting line for the last regular season meet. You can change a life by logging onto www.mycharitywater.org/solonhighschool, or by sending a donation into the Solon High School office explicitly addressed for the Charity: Water fundraiser. Together we can save lives, one dollar at a time.

Everyone digs the library

By Lori Lindner
North Liberty Leader
NORTH LIBERTY– City officials, department heads, board members and even state-level dignitaries were digging the North Liberty Community Library.
Literally.
On Sept. 30, Library Director Dee Crowner invited the public to an unofficial groundbreaking to commemorate the library’s future expansion. Unofficial, because construction won’t actually begin until next spring.
Crowner said she was just too excited to wait to celebrate the success of the fundraising campaign that exceeded its $3.3 million goal.
