Hawk Talk

Media day was Monday, Aug. 6, and it’s time to break down the offense, defense and special teams and then we can play some football.
I usually start with the offense when talking about Iowa football and I always start with the offensive line.
As I’ve said many times, if you have a good O-line, you can control the line of scrimmage, have more possession time, you can keep your defense fresh and usually come out with a win.

Reservations for the sponsored meal were due before noon Tuesday, Aug. 14. Doug Lindner from the Solon Economist and North Liberty Leader will be the speaker. Birthday cake and ice cream are always treats on sponsored meal days, cakes courtesy of Jeanne Erhart and Betty Buchmayer.

By B. Adam Burke
Solon Economist
SOLON– In slicing and dicing the Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill, all political flavors weighed in with their opinions. The five-year update, renamed the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, was passed in 2010.
One-time vice-presidential candidate and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin found U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) efforts to curb certain foods an example of “a nanny-state run amok” and then started bringing batches of cookies to speeches to emphasize her point.
