SOLON– The Ely-Cedar Rapids area bluegrass band, Riverbottom Ramblers, will perform from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, at the downtown bandstand as part of Solon’s Music on Main Street series. 
Members of the band are Don Horak on guitar, his wife Barb Horak on upright bass, Dean Schade on banjo and Mike Maas on dobro. Joining them this season is Carlis Faurot, an electrifying fiddler. 

IOWA CITY– Five private Iowa City gardens range from charming city lots to multi-acre properties will be part of the Project GREEN Garden Tour June 26. These garden owners have battled storm damage, boggy clay soil, invasive plant species and critter combatants. A map of the tour is on website www.projectgreen.org or begin at any one of the gardens for a ticket and a tour map.
The tour runs from at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 26. Admission is $5, 16 and under are free.

NORTH LIBERTY– There won’t be a special election in North Liberty August 2, but one is coming eventually.
Its date is yet to be determined.
A petition was filed with the City of North Liberty on May 10 calling for a vote to change the method in which North Liberty city councilors are elected. The petition seeks to have one council member elected from each of five equal-population wards.
Currently, all five council members are elected at-large and represent the entire city, regardless of their addresses.

IOWA CITY-The Iowa City Board of Education approved a $6,800 contract that will help students from three schools become fit and learn about health and wellness during the summer weeks.
On Tuesday all board members – except Michael Shaw, Gayle Klouda and Patti Fields, who were not present – voted to approve the contract that will allow The Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County to provide services for the 21st Century Enrichment Program.

NORTH LIBERTY–  The Old Capitol Doll Club of Iowa, in partnership with the North Liberty Community Library, will present a one-time special event Saturday, June 25, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the library.  The free event is recommended for 7-12 year-olds and their moms or grandmothers.  Of course, attendees can bring their favorite doll.
The event will begin with a program on “Raggedy Ann and Andy” presented by Evelyn Rutledge of the Old Capitol Doll Club of Iowa, followed by a fun craft.  A special Edwardian visitor will talk about etiquette and then serve tea with cookies and drinks.
