ThinkFirst! safety talk aims to reduce devastating injuries

NORTH LIBERTY– It only takes an instant to change a life, possibly forever.
Each year, approximately 600 Iowans are paralyzed from a spinal cord injury and another 5,000 will suffer from a traumatic brain injury (TBI), according to information provided by ThinkFirst Iowa, an injury prevention program based out of the Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.

More data, more questions

OXFORD– They know how many kids are in seats now, and where those seats are. What they don’t know is how many more are coming, or when.
The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Facilities Committee held their second meeting Monday, Nov. 12, at Clear Creek Elementary in Oxford, a school recently closed to open enrollment and the second in the district to do so due to lack of space. Committee Co-Chairs Malinda Lamb and Laura Kay Sheely distributed a revised proposed timeline, including data through the month of November.

First steps

CCA’s Facilities Study Committee organizes

OXFORD– Determining the next, best thing for students? That’s a task for the members of the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school district’s Facilities Study Committee. Around 25 committee members, faculty and staff met Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the elementary school in Oxford for an organizational meeting.
The district is continuing to face increased enrollment and a resulting lack of space, leading to the potential need to expand existing facilities or even build new. The board approved a committee to explore the district’s needs and make recommendations to address them.

Laying a foundation

ICAT helps CCA board plan for the future

OXFORD– In May of this year, Kent Pilcher and Ric Parades of the Iowa Construction Advocate Team (ICAT)/Estes Construction presented a multi-step matrix to the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) School Board of Directors. The plan was a suggested guideline to help the board determine future facility needs, and a roadmap toward a future bond referendum to pay for them.

CCA board will likely green-light NBE expansion

TIFFIN— A six-classroom addition to the North Bend Elementary School in North Liberty will likely be approved next month. In the third work session this month, the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school board continued to look at a list of enrollment growth options, including proposed the addition.
Four of the seven members– Terry Davis, Mic Kahler, president Eileen Schmidt and Ted Hergert– said the addition was their top choice among seven options the board has been discussing. Steve Swenka and Bob Broghammer elected to pursue other options, while Aimee Pitlick said she had no favorite choice.
