Indians deny Clippers tourney trip

Marion boys take CCA 2A substate final 1-0

North Liberty Leader
MARION– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity boys’ soccer team hasn’t been to the state tournament since 2014, and the Marion Indians ensured the Creek Boys will have to wait at least one more year by ending the Clippers’ season 1-0 Saturday, May 27, in a Class 2A substate final in Marion.
The Indians dealt what turned out to be the fatal blow in the 34th minute of the first half. The Clippers outshot the Indians, but were unable to score throughout the 80 minutes. The loss ended CCA’s season at 11-7 while Marion improved to 11-4.

Ear for perfection

NL’s Steve Junge keeps corridor pianos in-tune

NORTH LIBERTY– Pianos are complex instruments, hand-assembled by craftsmen, that produce melodious sounds for decades. However, like any mechanical device, eventually they need attention and tuning. The seven-county area, known as Iowa’s Creative Corridor, including North Liberty in particular, now has an artisan dedicated to restoring a piano’s full musical potential.
Steve Junge, of North Liberty, began offering professional piano tuning services in November. A corporate reorganization led to Junge reevaluating what he wanted to do. Music was the answer, but what aspect of music?

Sanders was assistant coach at Iowa City West High for eight seasons, working with legendary West High coach Kathy “Brez” Bresnahan for five years and the past three for Dolson.
He graduated with 24 classmates from Glidden-Ralston and managed the volleyball team his senior year.

Cedar Ridge celebrates long-awaited legislation and its most prestigious award

SWISHER– So far 2017 has been a very good year for Jeff Quint and his Cedar Ridge Winery and Distillery located near Swisher.
On March 28 a key piece of legislation, long fought for by Iowa’s distilleries, cleared the Iowa House of Representatives, 93-1. House File 607 allows Iowa distilleries to sell their products by the glass, and as cocktails, in their tasting rooms. It also increases a daily sales limit from two bottles per person to a full 12-bottle case and raises a state-imposed cap on the annual production of distilled spirits.

Sooner than later for new elementary school

Enrollment projections lead to a slight gamble for CCA facilities plan

OXFORD– In September, voters in the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Community School District will be asked to approve a $36 million bond issue, which– if approved– would finance a new elementary school among other projects aimed at addressing continued enrollment growth. The new unnamed elementary was originally scheduled to be open for the 2020-21 school year; however, Superintendent Tim Kuehl recently asked the School Board of Directors to move it up one year.

Bormann breaks tie in OT

IOWA CITY– Sometimes raw statistics can be misleading. Tax levy remains the same, but higher valuations will hit property owners
