He’s Got a Rock ‘n’ Roll Heart

Solon’s Kevin Samek inducted into Iowa Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame

SOLON– Amped and energetic, uninhibited and intense, young rock musicians often have dreams of making it from their parents’ garages all the way to the big time.
Most don’t make it out of the garage.
Fate played a different tune for Kevin Samek of Solon.
In the 1970s, Kevin joined the rock band Windfall Jac, lending his vocal stylings to the band covering artists like Led Zepplin, ZZ Top and Eric Clapton.

Literally.

In its Oct. 13 meeting, the council readily said yes.

Great shakes

NL’s fourth annual dog plunge makes a splash

NORTH LIBERTY– Tails were wagging and wet fur was flying at the North Liberty Aquatic Center, Sept. 10 and 11, during the city’s fourth annual Doggie Plunge event.
Each year as the city closes its outdoor pool to human customers, Aquatics Director Katie Gerot and her staff get ready to entertain four-legged friends who also enjoy getting wet. In order to be pet-friendly, the water must be properly prepared by cutting off chemical treatments and dropping the water level below the system’s filters.
