SOLON– There’s a couple of new faces being seen around town these days in the service of the city and its citizens. Jerry McAtee and Tim Stull joined the ranks of the Public Works Department in July, with McAtee coming aboard on July 1 while Stull started on the fifteenth.
A self-described lifer, McAtee is a Solon native through and through. His official title is that of a water and wastewater utilities specialist. Stull is a transplant, having been born and raised in Belle Plaine before living in West Branch and eventually putting down roots in Solon.

Wild Rabbit, worthy cause

NORTH LIBERTY– It looks like something a few dozen clowns would tumble out of. It has more glitter than a Liberace performance. And, it will be a $500 boost to the North Liberty Food Pantry’s coffers when somebody buys it.
It is a 1979 VW Rabbit, known as the “Sparkle Car,” for sale at Sherm’s Auto in North Liberty. Owner Steve Sherman took the utilitarian economy car, which had been brush-painted a rather drab shade of brown, and transformed it into a one-of-a-kind unit its future owner will never lose in a parking lot.

IOWA CITY– While many have dwelled on the huge hits to the West High varsity football roster from graduation, coach Brian Sauser and his Trojans honestly couldn’t care less.
That was yesterday, and yesterday’s gone.
The 2013 edition of West High Football made a statement Friday, Aug. 30, as it opened the season with a 67-28 home field victory over the Linn-Mar Lions: the program is fine and as strong as ever, maybe even stronger.

Big Grove Brewery

Much anticipated opening date set for

SOLON– It’s a combination of rustic elements and contemporary design, urban chic meets country comfort. It’s a Friday night with old friends around the fire, topped off with new-to-the-world trendy craft beer.
It’s part five-star chef, part mom’s mac-and-cheese, born of a blend of talented individuals both raised in the Midwest and schooled by life in some of the most eclectic, metropolitan places in the world.
And it’s all in once place, right in the heart of Solon.

New era for CCA football

Matt Hughes and Clippers build on strong foundation as they look forward

TIFFIN– When the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers varsity football team takes the field Friday, Sept. 30, to open the 2013 season, there will be a host of new faces on the sidelines. For the first time in seven years, Rodney Walls won’t be leading the men in blue and white. Walls resigned after the 2012 season, which saw the Clippers improve to a 4-5 record from 2011’s 0-9 showing.
