He did it HIS WAY

Randall bows out with few regrets

SOLON– Typically, when a long-tenured coach leaves an athletic program under a cloud of controversy, they say they want to focus on the positives and not dwell on the negatives.
Brad Randall, now the former Solon High School varsity boys’ basketball coach, is no exception.
With a winning record full of accomplishments, it’s easy for him to emphasize the highlights.

An eggs-tra special breakfast

North Liberty Optimists Club member Lori Meyer breaks a few eggs at the Optimists’ 41st annual Pancake Breakfast March 1. The event is one of the club’s major fundraisers, helping the Optimists sponsor and support many activities in the North Liberty community that benefit youth and families, including Scout events, youth baseball and softball, the DARE program and holiday meals for families in need. Young blood

SHS senior Brianna Pike achieves donation milestone

SOLON– Student Brianna Pike is a rare type.
The Solon High School senior was recognized on Monday, March 10, when she donated blood with the University of Iowa DeGowin Blood Center for the eighth time in two years. Having given a collective gallon of blood before leaving high school, Brianna is now officially a Gallon Grad, earning her a red cord upon graduation and a distinction even more significant: she is the first among Solon students to achieve the status, and also the first ever at the DeGowin Blood Center.

IOWA CITY– One day earlier and it may have been written off as an April Fool’s Day prank.
But Kathy Bresnahan’s post on the social media site Facebook last Wednesday (April 2) was no joke as she announced her resignation from coaching the Iowa City West High Women of Troy varsity volleyball program.

Long tenured administrator accepts Florida post

Lippincott leaving for warmer weather

SOLON– It’s been over eight years since Cassandra Lippincott first said hello to Solon.
Now it’s time to say goodbye.
Lippincott, the city’s third city administrator and its longest tenured, announced last week she has accepted a position with the city of Wildwood, Fla., and will be leaving in April.
Lippincott came to head up Solon’s city government in November 2005, following in the footsteps of the first city administrator, Brandy Forbes, and her successor, Tracey Mulcahey.
The city created the position in the spring of 2000.
