Trojans MVC divisional track champs

West High’s sophomores, varsity lead the way

DUBUQUE– Dalzell Field in Dubuque was the site Thursday, May 8, for the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) Mississippi Division boys conference meet. The West High Trojans emerged as the champions in both sophomore and varsity competition with 128 team points for the varsity and 120 for the sophs. Together the Trojan track and field teams racked up 10 first-place finishes and seven second-place finishes in 36 events in total.

Clipper boys place fifth at WaMaC divisional golf

SHELLSBURG– The Clear Creek Amana boys golf team placed fifth in the WaMaC West Boys Divisional Golf Tournament held at the Wildcat Golf Course in Shellsburg Monday, May 5.
Marion won the meet with a score of 160 and Williamsburg’s Zach Buch was the top golfer, posting a 37 on the day, while Jacob Klingeman led the Clippers with a score of 42. Nolan Navara had 44 strokes, Cal Miller also posted 44, Dylan Wolfe had 46, and Killian Walters and Coltyn Schulte both put up 49.

Women of Troy come in second at MVC divisional meet May 8

WATERLOO– The West High Women of Troy track and field team finished second in varsity competition to rival City High Thursday, May 8, at the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) Mississippi Division meet.
The Little Hawks varsity team took the division championship with 166 team points to West’s 150.
In Junior Varsity (JV) competition, Cedar Rapids Kennedy won with 132 points. The West JV squad was fourth with 77.

May 19 golf event benefits local nonprofits

IOWA CITY– The fourth annual “Charity Ball Drop” at the annual golf outing of the Community Foundation of Johnson County (CFJC) offers unique opportunities to fund nonprofit organizations.
The Community Foundation’s annual Tee Off for Charity-Team Up for Philanthropy golf outing will be held at Brown Deer Golf Course on Monday, May 19. The ball drop will be held at 6 p.m.

Clear Creek Amana school board approves 1:1 computer purchase for middle school in 2014-15

OXFORD– Starting this fall, every student in the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) middle school will have their own Chromebook personal computer to use in class and at home. The district’s school board approved spending $157,739.50 to purchase 500 devices at its regular meeting Wednesday, April 16, at Clear Creek Elementary in Oxford.
