ANAMOSA– A sports complex carved out of the bluffs near the Wapsipinicon River in southwest Anamosa was the site last Tuesday (April 15) for the Girls Early Bird Relays hosted by the Anamosa Blue Raiders. While the day was sunny, it was still chilly, but the Solon Lady Spartans and Clear Creek Amana Clippers were red hot, taking first and second place respectively in total team points.
The Lady Spartans led the field with a dominating 171 points while the Creek Girls had 98. Host Anamosa was eighth with 48 and Central City rounded out the 11-team field with 25.

New coaches lead Clippers on the links

TIFFIN– It’s a season of change for both the girls and boys golf programs at Clear Creek Amana with two new coaches. Nathan Carlson has taken the helm of the girls’ team while Sean Patrick is the new skipper for the boys.
Carlson inherits a squad with three seniors; Gabi Scarpa, Anna Johnson and Whitney Schuttire. Scarpa was ranked 13th in Class 4A last year. Juniors Sara McGrath, Nicole Davis and Haley Mougin bring needed experience to the team while sophomore Alison DeVore and freshmen Emma Davis, Megan Graff, Ashlee Kopejtka, Jillian Shrader and Kalista Wilgenbusch round out the group.

CCA girls dominate Washington Demons

TIFFIN– Many athletic events were canceled across eastern Iowa last Monday (April 14) due to cold, wind and lousy field conditions. However, in Tiffin, the Clear Creek Amana Clippers’ ladies’ soccer team rose to the challenge and dominated the Washington Demons with a 10-0 win.
The Clippers scored five goals in the first half while playing directly into a 20 mph wind.
“The girls showed a lot of grit in a 20-something wind chill,” CCA coach Matt Harding said.

CCA girls fourth at Tipton

TIPTON– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) women’s track and field team headed to Cedar County and the Tigerette Relays last Thursday, April 14, and came home with fourth place in team points. Mount Pleasant won the 15-team meet with 96 points, Mount Vernon was third with 90 and the Clippers put up 49. The host Tigerettes finished in a tie for ninth-place with Camanche with 26 points.

Tiffin mayor helps raise awareness of elderly hunger issues

IOWA CITY– For many elderly people, a hot meal can be difficult to come by.
That’s why Elder Services, Inc., (ESI) of Iowa City, has been delivering meals to Johnson County homebound residents through its Meals on Wheels program since 1980. To raise awareness of senior hunger and nutrition issues, ESI participated in March for Meals, a national campaign held last month initiated by the Meals on Wheels Association of America.

Council still dwelling on rental housing code

NORTH LIBERTY– A proposed code to regulate the condition of North Liberty’s rental housing and the behavior of rental tenants was put on hold last week.
The North Liberty City Council tabled the final vote on a new rental housing code after hearing comments from landlords who own rental units in the city’s two mobile home parks, Golf View and Holiday Lodge.
