Why North Liberty needs 1105

As a North Liberty resident, I find it easy to feel insulated from big city problems. I don’t think my neighbors are hungry. I don’t worry that they are abused, unable to pay their bills, or struggling with mental illness
Local statistics shatter those illusions:

IOWA CITY–The Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD) board of directors moved quickly through a Feb. 25 public hearing on Penn Elementary and a consent agenda to hear a report on the developing community engagement process.
The ICCSD engaged St. Louis consulting firm UNICOM•ARC to educate, inform the public, and engage the community as the district’s attendance zones are restructured to accommodate district growth.

Family Science Night

Sisters Ava and Grace Hatch work together as they prepare to make a soda can implode at Penn Elementary during the PTO-sponsored Family Science Night Feb. 21. The experiment was a demonstration of the reactions when heat and cold are applied to water inside a container. The hands-on display manned by students in the University of Iowa’s Science Education program was just one of the many stations children and families could visit to learn more about scientific principles from all realms of science.
