NL brings 1105 $10K closer to goal

NL council pledges additional funds to social services

NORTH LIBERTY– The City of North Liberty will give $97,000 to various social services in fiscal year 2015.
Last Tuesday, Feb. 25, the city council approved a pledge of $10,000 to the 1105 Project, a capital campaign that consolidated social service organizations into a single location in Iowa City.
When council member Terry Donahue balked at giving funds to support a construction project outside of town– initially the lone voice of dissent– he leveraged his vote to get another $4,000 for the North Liberty Community Food and Clothing Pantry.

CCA approves land sale to Tiffin for access road

TIFFIN–The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school board of directors unanimously approved selling a parcel of land to the City of Tiffin.
The property is needed for an access road into the future Deerview subdivision just west of the high school.
The board met Wednesday night, Feb. 19, and held a public hearing on the latest proposal prior to its vote.

Tiffin to hold public hearing on banning drug paraphernalia

TIFFIN– Whether you aspire to open a head shop in Tiffin, or to make sure one never does, you might want to attend a public hearing on the matter March 12.
The Tiffin City Council set a public hearing to discuss an ordinance that would prohibit the use, possession, manufacture or sale of drug paraphernalia within city limits. Tiffin City Administrator Michon Jackson said in an email last week it was a proactive maneuver some cities are taking in light of recent changes to marijuana laws in other states.

Public invited to Tiffin city hall open house March 18

TIFFIN– The City of Tiffin will hold an open house for the new city hall located at 300 Railroad St. from 3 until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18. Everyone is invited to tour the facility and speak with city staff, council members and Mayor Steve Berner during the open house event. City officials are excited to have this newly constructed building that has adequate staff work space, a community event room available for rent to the public, and provides a professional atmosphere for the city to conduct its business.

Trojans cruise to substate final

CR Prairie no problem; West wins, 63-21

IOWA CITY– The Little Hawks of City High will get a third shot at their crosstown rivals, the Trojans of West High, for the right to compete in the Class 4A state basketball tournament.
The teams will meet Tuesday, March 4, in Cedar Rapids thanks to City disposing of Newton 64-50, while West wiped out Cedar Rapids Prairie 63-21 Friday, Feb. 28, in substate semifinal games. The Trojans have defeated the Little Hawks twice this season, 70-34 and 73-41.
Likewise, the Trojans schooled the Prairie Hawks in the art and science of basketball 87-40 back in January.

So close; Clippers’ season ends in OT

Benton Community 60, CCA Clippers 59

VAN HORNE– Basketball season is officially over at the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School.
The Bobcats of Benton Community closed the book on the Clippers’ season Monday, Feb. 24, in a Class 3A District 10 semifinal at Van Horne with a 60-59 win in overtime. Benton held a 12-9 lead at the end of the first period, but a 19-point effort by the Clippers in the second quarter led to a 28-22 advantage at the half. CCA stretched their lead to 39-28 going into the fourth period.
