Rural subdivision approved despite neighbors’ concern for Lake Macbride

JOHNSON COUNTY– Despite public objections and petitioning neighbors, the Johnson County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a plat for an eight-home subdivision just west of Solon.

Green-Douglass to appear on primary ballot in June

JOHNSON COUNTY– Lisa Green-Douglass became a political junkie at the age of 21, the first time she attended her first Iowa caucus, during the presidential election year of 1980.
“I was immediately drawn into the whole process,” said Green-Douglass. “When you are at a caucus, you are in the initial picking process. You help create the party platform. Sometimes, some of those issues end up getting legislated. It was such a thrill for me to see grass roots politics, and really understand for the first time in my life what that really meant.”

Tiffin council remains optimistic

TIFFIN– The City of Tiffin has encountered many roadblocks on its six-year path to extending a main thoroughfare through town, but the Ireland Avenue project continues to gain ground.
At the city council meeting Feb. 12, City Attorney Crystal Raiber told the council the remaining necessary easement agreements were falling into place at last.

Wagner named 2013 Special Olympics coach of the year

DUBUQUE– Special Olympics Iowa is honored to announce the selection of Rob Wagner of North Liberty as Special Olympics North America’s 2013 coach of the year. Wagner was presented with the national award during the 2014 Special Olympics Iowa State Winter Games in Dubuque Jan. 14.

Youth football registration to be March 4

TIFFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Youth Football Program will hold registrations for incoming fifth and sixth grade students for the 2014-2015 school year on Tuesday, March 4, from 6 until 8 p. m. in the CCA Middle School multi-purpose room. All interested students and parents should come to the meeting to find out more about the program. Fundamentals of football will be taught. This is full contact with pads and helmets. All equipment will be furnished except shoes. Cost for the program is $150. Practices start mid-August and last until the final game in October.

Big Country Seeds to assist in securing grant for CCA schools

TIFFIN– Big Country Seeds Inc. of Tiffin, is excited to offer its support in assisting the Clear Creek-Amana (CCA) school district secure a $25,000 grant through Monsanto’s “America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education Fund.” The process begins with nomination submission by April 6 with award announcement in August.
Dan Steines, president of Big Country Seeds Inc., said the timing is right for his company to drive this initiative.
