Expect miracles, droll humor in collection of tales

NORTH LIBERTY– Local author Patrick Irelan doesn’t expect everyone to believe in miracles.
But if he piques your imagination or wonderment, he will consider that praise enough.
Miracles– of both the everyday and inexplicable sorts– intertwine Irelan’s recently-released collection of short stories, “The Miracle Boy,” published by Ice Cube Press.

Preliminary results for Swisher, CCA vote

JOHNSON COUNTY– Voters in two areas of Johnson County have received at least preliminary answers.
On Tuesday, Feb. 4, Swisher residents elected a new mayor to replace the position vacated by Tim Mason’s resignation in November. There were just two candidates on the ballot: Randy Hurlbert and Christopher Taylor.
Results released by the Johnson County Auditor’s office at 8 p.m. Tuesday show Taylor taking the seat, with a tally of 151 to Hurlbert’s 136 votes.

Mehaffey Bridge Road to receive more improvements this spring

JOHNSON COUNTY– A trip between Solon and North Liberty will take a little more time when a reconstruction project on Mehaffey Bridge Road gears up this spring.
The North Liberty City Council received an update on the planned upgrade from City Engineer Kevin Trom, of Shive Hattery Architecture and Engineering. The council approved the city’s 28E agreement with Johnson County for cost-sharing on the project.

TIFFIN — The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) girls basketball team rebounded from their 40-45 loss to Dyersville Beckman with a 41-38 win Tuesday, Jan. 14, at home against Central Clinton-DeWitt, but the week ended on a tough note with a 33-50 loss on the road at West Delaware Friday, Jan. 17.

Clipper boys struggle with Maquoketa

TIFFIN– It’s been a tough season for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers boys’ varsity basketball team with only four wins and (at this writing) nine losses, two of them back-to-back and by 20 points each.
After losing 71-50 to Benton Community on Tuesday, Jan. 21, Steve Ottoson’s Clippers came home for a Friday night tilt with Maquoketa, and found themselves in trouble early before losing, 57-37. The Cardinals improved to 5-9 with the win.
