Now, he and a family member can also create a beautiful kitchen counter on which to serve it.
Cody, owner of Yang Chow Wok, and his cousin, Lam Chen, have established a second business in the North Liberty area, L&C Marble Granite Supply.
Lam learned the trade of cutting and installing beautiful stone– primarily marble and granite– in Hong Kong, where Lam’s family has a long-established business in the industry.

Tiffin easements need to be re-signed

TIFFIN– The City of Tiffin is still working on improving the Inflow & Infiltrations (I & I) issues within the sanitary sewer system in the Original part of Tiffin. Within the last year Tiffin residents may have received a letter regarding a meeting to discuss this topic, followed up by further contact from the city’s engineers, Hart-Frederick Consultants, to get signatures for a temporary construction easement.

Meet-and-greet event for ICCSD candidates Aug. 29 in North Liberty

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Building Community group has invited the 13 candidates on the Sept. 8 ballot for the Iowa City Community School District to a meet-and-greet event in North Liberty. 
The free, public event will be from at 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 29, in the lower-level Gerdin Conference Room 2 at the North Liberty Community Center, 520 W. Cherry St. The North Liberty Building Community Group is nonpartisan, will not make endorsements, and is hosting this opportunity only for residents to meet the candidates in person and to gather information about them in one place.

Construction to begin on Curtis Bridge Rd. NE near Shueyville Aug. 24

SHUEYVILLE– Weather permitting, construction will start on Curtis Bridge Road NE from Shueyville’s corporate limit south to the dead end of Curtis Bridge Road NE on Monday, Aug. 24. Although Curtis Bridge Road will remain open to traffic, travelers should expect lane closures using pilot cars and flaggers with the potential for somewhat lengthy traffic delays. Construction should be complete by the end of October 2015.

Higher minimum wage gets maximum support

Public hearing moves county closer to new wage ordinance

JOHNSON COUNTY– Though the Johnson County Board of Supervisors heard overwhelming support for an ordinance that would raise the minimum wage countywide, there are still many unanswered questions, pockets of uncertainty and details to be worked out before a final vote.
The board held a public forum Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Johnson County Health and Human Services building to allow the public to weigh in on a proposed ordinance that would increase the minimum hourly wage for all workers in Johnson County from $7.25 to $10.10 by January 2017.

Annual Pelican Festival on Sunday, Sept. 13

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will partner with Iowa Audubon for the Fifth Annual Pelican Festival on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., located across the road from the IDNR headquarters at the Hawkeye Wildlife Area, 2564 Amana Road N.W.
This is a free family event and there will be guest speakers on a variety of topics. Prime pelican viewing will be enhanced with spotting scopes provided by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

TIFFIN– 2014 was a record-setting year for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers on the gridiron. The team posted a 7-2 record in the regular season and won the first district championship in school history. The Clippers’ season ended in the first round of the playoffs as Newton edged out CCA, 23-21.
The father-and-son coaching duo of Ronnie and Matt Hughes spearheaded a change, not just in tactics on the turf, but in the overall climate of the CCA football program over the past two years.

Fifteen returning seniors lead West High football

IOWA CITY– Fifteen experienced seniors will lead the West High Trojans in gridiron battle this season. The Trojans finished the 2014 season at 7-5 overall and 3-1 in Class 4A District No. 7, second behind Pleasant Valley (4-0 in the district). Their season ended in the Class 4A quarterfinals as Cedar Rapids Washington ran over them, 44-19, after first and second round wins over Ottumwa, 28-0, and Linn-Mar, 38-34.

Talent in abundance for CCA cross country

TIFFIN– It’s a mix of change and consistency for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) cross-country teams this season. Ben Robison has taken the top spot in the boys’ program after a year as an assistant and a year as the middle school coach.
Robison takes over a program fourth in the state qualifying meet last year and returns three seniors and three juniors: Jake Tener (senior), Eric Douglass (senior), Kage Hinricks (senior), Luke Wingert (junior), Ben Oxley (junior) and Wyatt Sedlacek (junior).
Douglass was 24th in the 2014 State Meet and earned All-Conference honors along with Tener.

It’s fun to Just Tri

NORTH LIBERTY– When nearly 100 kids between the ages of 6 and 14 come out on a Sunday to swim, bicycle and run, everybody wins.
That was the scene at the fourth annual Just Tri! Youth Triathlon in North Liberty on Sunday, Aug. 2. Co-hosted by the North Liberty Recreation Department and Tri-Fit Agape of North Liberty, the event is not timed and places are not recorded. Distances of each leg of the triathlon are modified to accommodate three different age brackets.
The intent is as straightforward as its name: organizers just want kids to give it a try.

Familiar faces to fill CCA school board ballot

OXFORD — Four incumbents are running for reelection to the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Community School District Board of Directors in the upcoming school board election to be held Tues., Sept. 8.
Current board members Terry Davis, Matt McAreavy, Bob Broghammer and Steve Swenka are seeking reelection this cycle. Davis, of Oxford, is running for one of two At Large seats with McAreavy, also of Oxford. McAreavy was appointed to the District Two seat to fill the vacancy created when former board member Kevin Kinney was elected to the State House. The At Large seats carry four-year terms.
