West High’s 2013-14 wrestlers loaded and ready

IOWA CITY– Mark Reiland’s 2013-2014 West High varsity wrestling team hasn’t changed much from last year’s squad, which went 21-8, 13-1 in MVC competition. Reiland, in his 15th season with the Trojans, only lost four seniors to graduation: Kegan Wakefield at 138 pounds, Blake Bohner at 182, Mickey Pelfrey at 195 and Colin Foerstner at 285.

West High bowling team prepares for 2013-14 season

IOWA CITY– It started out as a club activity, became a sanctioned sport by both the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU), and continues to get bigger every year. “It” is the girls and boys bowling teams at West High, under coach Mike Mellecker.
Mellecker started as an assistant coach in 2000, back in the club sport days. In 2007 he took the top spot. Since then the boys have compiled a 19-62 record while the girls have fared better at 33-61.

Clear Creek Amana Foundation Hall of Fame honors 2013 inductees

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana Foundation held its Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday, Oct. 25, during the half-time of the junior varsity football game. Honored were 2013 Clear Creek Amana Hall of Fame inductees Bill J. Leischenring and Darrell Wallace.

NLPD asks for citizen input on logo redesign

NORTH LIBERTY– For the next seven days, citizens have a unique opportunity to tell North Liberty police officers what to do.
The North Liberty Police Department (NLPD) is in the process of updating the emblem that will represent the department, not only on its officers’ uniforms but also on letterhead, identification badges and other items, and they are asking for the public to weigh in on the design.

HCS students learn about sacrifice on Veterans Day

NORTH LIBERTY– Some people may see the phrase, “freedom is not free” as a cliché. For Michael Annis, the administrator of the Heritage Christian School in North Liberty, it is more of an understatement.
The school hosted it’s annual Veterans Day Celebration on Monday, Nov. 11, with veterans honored and thanked for their service through musical and video tributes as well as words of appreciation from Annis and a personal thank-you from every student in the building.
