LOST in the shuffle

JOHNSON COUNTY– The City of Iowa City has set in motion the chance for Johnson County and its municipalities to open a new revenue stream.
Iowa City’s council has proposed a one-cent Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) referendum be placed countywide on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.

Movie in the Park offered Aug. 15

SOLON– The Solon Parks and Recreation Department invites everyone to the movies.
The first-ever Movie in the Park Night will be held Friday, Aug. 15, beginning at 8:30 p.m. near the Timber D.O.M.E. Lodge at the Solon Recreation and Nature Area.
The event is free, but popcorn and refreshments will be available for purchase at the D.O.M.E. starting at 8:15 p.m.
Parents and children are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. The Aug. 15 movie will be “Despicable Me 2.”

Solon Storm 12U Small Town Baseball World Series Champs

The Solon Storm 12U baseball team won the Small Town Baseball Championships in Grinnell in June. In so doing, the team qualified for the Small Town Baseball World Series in Marshfield, Wisconsin, in July. The Storm proceeded to go 5-0 over the three-day tournament, to be crowned Small Town World Series Champions 2014. WaMaC East Division All Conference boys soccer 2013-14

SOLON– Six Spartans were named recently to the WaMaC East Division All Conference boys soccer squads.
Andrew West and Adam Nelson-Ockenfels were named to the WaMaC first team, while Brandan Childs and Keegan Paisley were on the second team.
David Coberly and Dylan Doyle received honorable mentions.
The Spartans finished the WaMaC season in third place for the East Division with a 5-2 record.

Trapshooting team can drive set for Sept. 6

Solon mayor, council to be elected Nov. 4

IOWA CITY– Solon will be electing a mayor and council member this November.
Three Johnson County cities– North Liberty, Oxford and Solon– will have special elections for city offices on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.

According to the Johnson County Auditor’s office, Iowa law says that city council appointments last until the next scheduled city election. Because the local option sales tax (LOST) referendum will appear on the general election ballot, the general election is now considered the next scheduled city election.
