No contests in November Solon city elections

Stange, Prentice, Snipes to run unopposed

Mayor Steve Stange and council members Mark Prentice and Dale Snipes are running unopposed in the Tuesday, Nov. 3, election.
All three were appointees to their respective positions, although Stange was elected to his position in the 2014 general election after replacing former mayor Cami Rasmussen in May of 2014.

Spartans roll over Western Dubuque, 36-7

SOLON– It was Senior Night at Spartan Stadium on Oct. 16 when Solon ran over the Western Dubuque Bobcats, 36-7.
Many moms fought to maintain their composure, lined up at the bottom of the stairs at the east end of the home bleachers, shedding tears as they hugged other senior mothers. Fathers laughed and joked, trying to make light of the situation. It was punctuated with an exclamation point as Dave Durr was met with cheers while executing a full-on ‘80s worm break dance move on his way, with wife Salina, to meet Halston in front of the crowd.

Solon heads into tournaments

SOLON– Solon’s varsity volleyball team took advantage of an opportunity for a conference win with a 3-0 sweep of Anamosa on Senior Night Oct. 13.
The game featured the return of sophomore Grace Keith, sidelined since early in the season by an ankle injury.
“The team really looked confident with her back on the floor,” said Head Coach Peter Gustin. “It’s been a slow process incorporating her back in, and her jump count will be limited moving forward.”
Senior Josey Hajek was also back in the lineup after an ankle sprain at the Waverly-Shell Rock Invite Oct. 3.

Coming out of Oct. 15’s WaMaC Super Conference run, both boys and girls need to move up the pack to continue their seasons.
