Council moving ahead with city hall design

SOLON– A Cedar Rapids engineering firm has been selected to design Solon’s new city hall.
At a March 20 meeting, city council members approved $3,050 in architectural services for Design Dynamics, Inc. for a design concept, and a full presentation was tentatively scheduled for special council meeting Monday, March 15.

SOLON– Last November, three young Solon women had a chance to taste a slice of life in the Big Apple.
And it was sweet.
It wasn’t just the average school trip or family vacation, either. These ladies were invited to participate in one of the nation’s time-honored holiday traditions, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Sixth annual SMS Dinner and Dance April 20

SOLON– The Solon Middle School will host the sixth annual “Dinner and Dance” on Saturday, April 20, with dinner beginning at 5 p.m., and the dance following at 7 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to attend the event in the middle school gymnasium. Catering will be by Ruzicka’s, with great desserts. There will also be a silent auction. Dinner entertainment will be provided by Synergy and Affinity show choirs.
Jazz Bands I and II will perform, and the Iowa Vanguard Jazz Collective will be featured.

Solon legion pancake breakfast April 14

SOLON– The Solon American Legion Veterans’ Memorial All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast will be held Sunday, April 14, at the legion hall from 7 until 11:30 a.m. For $7 adults and $4 children 6-12 (children 5 and under eat free) you will be served pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, juice, coffee and milk.
All proceeds go to the maintenance costs at the Veterans’ Memorial Monument.

Lakeview PTO’s second annual Spartan Dash fundraiser set for Saturday, April 27

SOLON– The Lakeview PTO will be hosting its second annual Spartan Dash on Saturday, April 27, rain or shine. The Spartan Dash is a fun and crazy fitness event that will serve as Lakeview PTO’s largest fundraiser of the year. Interested individuals should sign up to participate in the event with a family team. Family teams will walk, skip, or run through obstacles set up along the one-mile trail in the Solon Recreation and Nature Area. Obstacles will be suitable for both children and adults and are guaranteed to have you laughing.
