Solon teens injured in I-380 rollover

GILBERTVILLE– Two Solon school students were injured in a rollover accident on Interstate 380 Thursday, Nov. 14, subsequent to a semifinal football playoff game at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
Allie Mercer, 17, and Alexa Roeder, 18, sustained non-incapacitating injuries when driver Shae Scott, 18, lost control of the 2002 Ford Expedition she was driving, according to a state accident report filed by the Black Hawk Sheriff’s Department.

Solon Community Pantry to donate ready-to-cook Thanksgiving meals

SOLON– The Solon Community Food Pantry is once again offering a ready-to-cook Thanksgiving meal box to families filled with all the holiday fixings. Boxes may be picked up Monday, Nov. 25, at the pantry between 2 and 6 p.m. Please call Carol Tobias, 319-351-6707 to reserve a meal box. Monetary donations to help with our Thanksgiving meals may be mailed to Solon Community Food Pantry, P.O. Box 344, Solon, IA 52333.

Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service Nov. 24

The Solon United Methodist Church will host an ecumenical thanksgiving soup supper and prayer service on Sunday, Nov. 24, at Solon United Methodist Church. Join members of Our Lord’s Church, United Methodist Church, and St. Mary Catholic Church at 5 p.m. for soup; and 6 p.m. for prayer. All three Solon pastors will participate. Pastor Scott Kober, of the Methodist Church, will offer the message. Members of the churches are participating with a combined choir. Please join them as they give thanks to God for our many blessings this Thanksgiving.

Solon Firefighter Dance Nov. 30

SOLON– The Solon firefighters will host their 21st annual Firefighters Dance on Saturday, Nov. 30, at Lake MacBride Golf Club.
The featured band is “Eight Seconds” and raffle prizes will be given away throughout the night. The grand prize is an overnight stay at Riverside Hotel and Casino. A University of Iowa No. 44 football helmet will also be given away.

HCS students learn about sacrifice on Veterans Day

NORTH LIBERTY– Some people may see the phrase, “freedom is not free” as a cliché. For Michael Annis, the administrator of the Heritage Christian School in North Liberty, it is more of an understatement.
The school hosted it’s annual Veterans Day Celebration on Monday, Nov. 11, with veterans honored and thanked for their service through musical and video tributes as well as words of appreciation from Annis and a personal thank-you from every student in the building.

Solon food drive begins Nov. 18

SOLON– The Octagon Club of Solon will be holding a food drive starting Monday, Nov. 18, and concluding the following Monday, Nov. 25. Non-perishable items may be dropped off by community members in the main office at the high school. If you have students attending Solon High School, you may send the items with them to be left at one of several drop sites around the high school. The goal of the food drive is get 1,000 pounds of non-perishable foods that will be given to the Solon Food Pantry.
