Sponsor a family with CCA’s annual holiday baskets

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School Student Council is once again holding its annual Sponsor a Family Holiday Baskets. Each year the student council takes in donations such as money, winter clothing and canned food items from individuals, families and businesses. The school district uses those donations to provide for families in need in the district. Each year the goal has been to raise $3,000 or more to provide for 25-plus families. As the giving season creeps in, the student council is looking to raise over $4,000 this year and provide for 30 or more families.

Cedar Ridge growing again

Winery and distillery continues to expand in many ways

SWISHER– The doors to Cedar Ridge Winery and Distillery opened to the public on Black Friday in 2010, and owner Jeff Quint said, “We’ve been busy ever since.”
What started out as a small winery has grown to include the state’s oldest distillery and the first to make bourbon in Iowa since the days of Prohibition, an events center and separate production facility, and– soon– a private room for small gatherings and a storage and distribution warehouse.

Mercer, Morris elected

Solon narrowly leans to Clinton in presidential race

SOLON– Lynn Morris will fill out the remaining year of her appointed term as a member of the Solon City Council, and Shawn Mercer will be a newcomer.
Morris and Mercer received 896 and 802 votes respectively in the Nov. 8 general election, according to results posted by the Johnson County Auditor’s Office.
Mercer, while alone on the ballot for a three-year term, was opposed with a write-in campaign conducted by former council member Dale Snipes. It was actually Snipes’ term on the ballot, Snipes resigned from the council in July and had been replaced on an interim basis by Ron Herdliska.

Council moves ahead with water storage project

Work on 400,000- gallon ground storage reservoir to start in spring

SOLON– It will take Solon to a whole new level.
Bids for the construction of a 400,000-gallon water tank at the Solon Recreation and Nature Area will be awarded next month.
The project, originally expected to start in the spring of 2016, will now get underway a year later, with completion sometime in the fall of 2017.
The ground storage reservoir (GSR) will triple the capacity of the city’s municipal water storage, currently limited to a single 200,000-gallon water tower.

NORTH LIBERTY– The Johnson County Secondary Road Department announced substantial completion of the Highway 965 bridge project: the Highway 965 bridge reopened to traffic on Friday, Nov. 11, early enough for early morning traffic. The contractor, Cramer and Associates, of Grimes, completed work three weeks ahead of schedule.

Solon’s production of “Little Mermaid” delayed

I would like to take this time to announce a calendar change with our district’s musical production, “The Little Mermaid.”
Our initial completion date for our new 800-seat, state-of-the-art auditorium was early December, but as we near completion, we are much more confident with planning for a mid-January completion date.

Not North Liberty’s president

All but six Iowa counties elect Donald Trump to the White House

North Liberty Leader
NORTH LIBERTY– While Iowa was one of five states to flip party sides in the 2016 presidential election last week, North Liberty– and Johnson County as a whole– stayed true to the blue.
According to the Iowa Secretary of State unofficial election results, 93 of Iowa’s 99 counties voted for president-elect Donald Trump, effectively handing the business mogul six of his total 290 electoral votes and choosing the state’s first Republican since George W. Bush in 2004.
