Methodist youth group collecting non-perishables for Pine Ridge Reservation

SOLON– Youth members of Solon United Methodist Church are on a mission to do good.
Team Mission will be canvassing Solon neighborhoods this Sunday afternoon, Feb. 24, collecting nonperishable food items to be taken to the residents of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation at Wanblee, SD.  

Online registration now available for parks and recreation

SOLON– The Solon Parks and Recreation Department now offers registration software that allows parents to sign their son or daughter up for programs online. Parents now have the option to pay by credit card or debit card online or by cash or check through the city office. This option will allow people to register at home or at work thus making it more convenient for the customer. To register for Solon Recreation activities visit https://solon-iowa.cogran.com/.

Solon trapshooting team to hold can drive at NL American Legion Feb. 23

SOLON– The Solon trapshooting team will hold a can drive on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., and the drop-off point will again be the North Liberty American Legion (Club 76), one mile out of North Liberty.

Clear Creek Watershed Enhancement Board to host public meeting in Coralville Feb. 28

CORALVILLE– The Clear Creek Watershed Enhancement Board public meeting to be held at the Coralville Public Library, 1401 5th St., Coralville, IA 52241 at 5 p.m. on Feb. 28.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide information to the public concerning the accomplishments of the watershed board to make Clear Creek clear again and to welcome input for further priorities in the watershed.
The featured speaker will be James Martin of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, who is regional basin coordinator for southeast Iowa.

Wine tasting at the NL library Feb. 28

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Library is hosting a wine tasting with the Brick Arch Winery of West Branch on Thursday, Feb. 28, from 8 until 9:30 p.m. Adults 21 years and older may attend and must have valid photo ID to participate in the wine tasting. North Liberty Optimists’ annual pancake breakfast to be March 2

NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty Optimists will hold their 40th Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 2, from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the North Liberty Community Center.
All proceeds go to the youth of North Liberty. Some of what they support includes:

Legion Veterans Memorial breakfast Feb. 17

SOLON– The Solon American Legion will be offering its Veterans Memorial special breakfast at the legion on Sunday, Feb. 17, from 7 until 11:30 a.m. For $7 adults and $4 children (ages six through 12) they will be serving all you can eat pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, juice, coffee and milk. Children five and under eat free.
All proceeds go to maintenance costs at the Veteran’s Memorial monument.

Solon Dollars for Scholars ‘Bringing in the Green’ carnival March 3

SOLON– Attention juniors and seniors: The Solon Dollars for Scholars “Bringing in the Green” carnival will be held on Sunday, March 3, at the Lakeview large gym. Dollars for Scholars needs juniors, seniors and their parents to help make the carnival a success again this year. Legion fish fries begin this week through March 29

SOLON– The Solon American Legion will hold its famous Friday night fish fries Feb. 15 through March 29, from 5 until 7:30 p.m. at the legion. They will be serving Alaskan pike, and shrimp will be offered on Feb. 15, March 8 and March 29.
For $9 Adults and $4 Children (ages 5 through 12), dinner includes: fish, coleslaw, potato, bread, dessert and beverage. Children under 5 eat free. Carry outs also available.

Senior Advocates seek community input on purchase of new van

SOLON– The Solon Senior Advocates want to replace their aging 10 passenger van with a larger 25 passenger bus. In order to justify the purchase and attendant expenses, the group feels it should be available to various community organizations and groups. It will be necessary to schedule fee-based usage from others in addition to the Advocate’s senior trips in order to justify the purchase.
