Council still dwelling on rental housing code

NORTH LIBERTY– A proposed code to regulate the condition of North Liberty’s rental housing and the behavior of rental tenants was put on hold last week.
The North Liberty City Council tabled the final vote on a new rental housing code after hearing comments from landlords who own rental units in the city’s two mobile home parks, Golf View and Holiday Lodge.

Their creation consumes 12 million barrels of the country’s oil supply annually, only to be used once and stuffed en masse under kitchen sinks everywhere. They account for the deaths of 100,000 marine animals worldwide each year, according to the Surfrider Foundation. Each one will remain on earth for the next 200 to 1,000 years.

District to cut $3.6 million

IOWA CITY– The Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD) board of directors certified the Fiscal Year 2015 budget at its April 8 business meeting, setting the tax levy and spending authority in compliance with state law.
Superintendent Steve Murley announced how administration planned to cut operating expenses by $3.6 million in response to overspending and reduced income.
Community concerns about the budget cuts, particularly in music and world language programs, persisted; however, the decision on FY2015 budget adjustments was final.

An eggs-tra special breakfast

Open burning prohibited in NL

Fire department reminds residents of city burn ordinance

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Fire Department reminds North Liberty residents that open burning is prohibited throughout the entire city. The burning of yard waste, household items and burn barrels is prohibited.
Due to the close proximity of factory-built homes, no open fires or burning shall be permitted at any time or place within a factory-built home park, unless specifically authorized by the North Liberty City Council. Charcoal in a charcoal broiler or grill for the purpose of cooking food shall be allowed, provided there is adequate supervision.

NLPD to offer disposal for unused prescription drugs

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Police Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency, will collect expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Liberty Pharmacy, 555 W. Cherry St., for safe disposal.
This service is free and anonymous. Tablets, capsules, and all other solid dosage forms will be collected. Liquid medications in their original containers will be accepted.
