School board looks at building options

Concept for middle school configuration appears elusive

SOLON– What would it look like?
The members of the Solon school board began investigating more refined options for a possible multi-million dollar building project last week during a work session Monday, Nov. 25.
Board members visited with architect John Darveau of the architectural firm Struxture to consider two concepts for a new middle school as well as additional wings to the high school.

Early out movie Thursday, Dec. 5

The last early out activity for 2013 will be a movie on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. The animated movie “Planes” is rated PG.
Parents or caregivers are responsible for getting students to the library and picking them up when the movie is over. School age children under the age of 10 may attend the early out programs without an adult but must be picked up at the conclusion of the program if they are not in the care of a babysitter, who must be at least 11 years old.

UI Recreational Services offers Snowy Owl Camp in December

IOWA CITY– The University of Iowa Recreational Services will offer their Snowy Owl Camp to first through sixth graders on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, on Dec. 23, 26, 27, 30 and Jan. 2 and 3, 2014. Camp days will begin supervision at 7:45 a.m. and will be provided until 4:15 p.m. Snowy Owl Camp will take place in three main facilities: Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex, Macbride Nature Recreation Area and the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. The camp is broken down into three program areas:

Iowa City-area schools benefit from Mediacom’s ‘Shoes That Fit’ campaign

IOWA CITY– School age children from six Iowa City and North Liberty-area elementary schools will benefit this year from the annual “Shoes That Fit” campaign that supplies need-specific shoes and clothing to local children. The non-profit community outreach program is led by Mediacom, along with Iowa City business partner Scheels.

NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty’s 100th birthday came with some unexpected gifts that will keep on giving.
Throughout 2013, the community celebrated North Liberty’s centennial year with monthly events that both commemorated the past and reveled the present. A little more surprising were the plans and visions for an improved future that resulted from the conversations and planning that took place over the last 12 months, said Assistant City Administrator and Centennial Committee member Tracey Mulcahey.
