Wise about birds

Mike Havlik of the Y-Camp wildlife experience in Boone holds a live barred owl as part of his presentation on the behavior of owls and other birds of prey during he Eagle Watch and Expo in North Liberty Saturday, Feb. 8.This owl is missing an eye, after being injured on a roadway and rescued by Y Camp staff. Owls aren’t exactly as wise as legend would have it, Havlik said, because their huge eyes take up a large portion of their skull cavities. Council OKs site plan for new Casey’s

Spokesperson says Solon can support two separate stores

SOLON– Solon, apparently, is large enough to support a second Casey’s.
At its regular meeting on Feb. 5, the City Council approved a site plan for a new Casey’s General Store to be located on Lot 98 of Fox Ridge, Part 4 off Highway One near the post office.
Approval had been delayed as developers prepared and presented a traffic study to the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) regarding a second entrance to the property on Highway 1, required to allow ingress and egress by semi-tractor trailers, according to a Casey’s spokesperson.

What we have is a failure to communicate

Stalled labor negotiations lead to public blame, dispute, union rally

North Liberty Leader
NORTH LIBERTY– While workers have returned to their positions at South Slope Cooperative Communications, they have done so under a company-crafted contract that has not been adopted by the workers’ union.
The lack of a negotiated agreement has created mounting tensions between union bargaining representatives and management since the previous contract expired at midnight on Oct. 31, 2013.
Last Thursday, Jan. 23, employees organized a rally and press conference at the North Liberty Community Center, to bring public attention to the situation.
